How We Work

Our hybrid work style (3 days in the office) gives us the face-to-face time to have creative conversations, meaningful meetings, make quick decisions and build relationships. And it’s flexible enough to give you the space to do your best work.

About the role

As a Senior User Researcher at Gen, you’ll lead research that shapes our cybersecurity products and services. Your work will uncover insights that guide product strategy, improve the user experience, and support long-term innovation.

You’ll work closely with product, design, engineering, and other teams to bring the voice of the user into every stage of development. You’ll move easily between high-level exploration and hands-on research — defining the right questions, uncovering new opportunities, and helping teams make smart, user-informed decisions.

This role is for someone who brings both strong research craft and strategic thinking. You’re a confident communicator who can build trust, influence senior stakeholders, and challenge assumptions when needed. You don’t need to be the loudest voice in the room — but you do need to speak up when it matters. You’ll also help shape how research is practiced and valued at Gen.

What you will do in this role

  • Lead research in complex product areas, balancing immediate needs with long-term vision.

  • Plan and conduct generative and evaluative research using qualitative methods, supported by a team of quantitative researchers.

  • Turn research findings into clear, actionable insights and recommendations.

  • Work closely with product, design, engineering, and sales teams — building trust and keeping teams grounded in user needs, even in fast-moving or high-pressure situations.

  • Navigate tough conversations with senior or strong-willed stakeholders, while keeping research focused and impactful.

  • Own research in a specific product area. You’ll be embedded, trusted, and empowered to drive outcomes.

  • Coach and mentor more junior researchers to help them grow and build a strong research culture.

  • Communicate findings in clear, engaging ways — through storytelling, visuals, workshops, or strategic briefs.

  • Become a trusted advisor to senior leaders and influence the long-term direction of products.

  • Reframe problems and bring fresh thinking to help teams see new possibilities.

  • Advocate for user-centered thinking and help raise the visibility and value of research across the company.

  • Improve how we do research — including our tools, methods, and operations.

What you'll need to be successful in this role

  • 5+ years of experience doing user research for digital products.

  • Experience running research from start to finish — from shaping the right questions to delivering clear, actionable insights.

  • Strong skills in a range of qualitative methods and the judgment to pick the right one for the job.

  • A track record of using research to shape product and design decisions — and a solid understanding of business needs.

  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills — especially the ability to build relationships, guide senior partners, and hold a steady voice in rooms with strong opinions or competing priorities.

  • Comfortable mentoring or managing other researchers (formally or informally).

  • Proficiency in English, both spoken and written.

  • Familiarity with tools like UserTesting, Userinterviews, FigJam, and survey platforms as well as ChatGPT and other AI tools

  • A strategic mindset, with the ability to zoom out and see the big picture while still caring about the details.

  • A proactive approach — you're willing to speak up, advocate for users, and help teams take action on what matters.

  • A confident, collaborative voice — you're at ease having tough conversations and aligning different points of view.

  • Curiosity and creative energy — you enjoy exploring different angles and helping others think outside of the box.

  • A natural ability to inspire and motivate others, even in complex or uncertain situations.

Bonus:

  • Experience working in technical, cybersecurity, finance or enterprise environments.

  • Experience or interest in AI and emerging technologies, with a thoughtful, human-first approach.

  • A desire to contribute to team culture and help others grow — whether through mentorship, collaboration, or inspiration.

And a note from us We know that not everyone will tick every box. If you're excited about the role and feel you could make a meaningful contribution, we’d love to hear from you.

We’re especially looking for someone who thrives in complex stakeholder environments — someone who can bring clarity, confidence, and calm to strategic conversations, and elevate the voice of the user even when things get tough. Whether you're a natural extrovert or a quiet thinker, what matters most is that you show up with conviction — ready to contribute, question, and shape meaningful decisions.
