The opportunity:

We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Underwriter Financial Lines, based in our central Paris office.

Looking back at successful growth in Europe over the last years we decided to expand our award winning product offering to the French market, focusing on commercial insurance. We aim to build up a strong team that embodies the Markel style and is as passionate about this exciting project as we are.

What you’ll be doing:

• Developing our French market presence and building a sustainable portfolio to generate profitable growth
• Leading the D&O UW team in our Paris office
• Underwriting of Delegations and schemes products and facilities (D&O)
• Underwriting development for the open market for financial lines
• Contributing to products and drafting improvements
• Business development in the French brokers landscape, maintaining strong relationship whilst identifying new business partnerships and opportunities  
• Collaborating closely with the team to challenge and fine tune our strategy 
• Some travelling in France and in Europe throughout the year to meet our key partners and peers 

Our must-haves:

• Significant experience in the French financial lines market
• Management experience is preferable 
• Fluency in French with professional level of spoken and written English
• Hands-on mentality, entrepreneurial spirit
• Broad brokers network
• Open, innovative and progressive mind-set with an appreciation of existing market mechanisms
