A Nursing Professional Development Specialist influences professional role competence and professional growth of learners in a variety of settings: supports lifelong learners in an interprofessional environment that facilitates continuous development and learning for the healthcare team.

This position provides expert consultation, direction, leadership and accountability for education program development, implementation and evaluation at the organizational systems level. Includes professional development and empowerment of staff as well as management of resources to promote desired outcomes with attention to quality, efficiency and cost.

Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for Hire: Current RN licensure in Virginia or eligible or compact state Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for continued employment: Current RN licensure in Virginia AHA BLS HCP Certification or equivalent Experience REQUIRED: Minimum of five (5) years of clinical nursing experience; including a minimum three (3) years of current staff education and professional development experience Experience PREFERRED Clinical leadership role experience Progressive experience in staff education and professional development (orientation, preceptorship, in-service education, etc.) Academic health care experience Education/training REQUIRED: Master’s Degree in Nursing or related field. If Master’s Degree is not in nursing, then it is required to have a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing. Education/training PREFERRED: Master’s Degree in Nursing from an accredited program Certification in Nursing Professional Development or clinical specialty AHA Basic Life Support Instructor certification or equivalent Independent action(s) required: Has full authority and accountability for direction and leadership of program planning guideline development, setting of practice standards within the confines of organizations/divisions/units mission, goals and objectives. Manages human, fiscal and other resources to ensure quality programs/processes/services with measurable positive outcomes.
