As a Mechanical Engineer, supporting our Fort Hills Primary Extraction operations, you will apply your engineering skills, knowledge, and experience in a collaborative, cross-functional environment. This role offers short-term technical challenges and long-term initiatives aligned with Suncor's business values and goals focusing on safety, environment, reliability, and financial performance.Minimum Requirements:
Seven to ten years of relevant engineering experience
A bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering
Must be a Professional Engineer or eligible for membership in the Association of Professional Engineers, Geologists and Geophysicists of Alberta (APEGA)
Field experience and knowledge of Oil and Gas, Petrochemicals, or Oil Sands operations
Experience employing ASME/API Standards including ASME B31.3, ASME B31.4, and API 579
Experience developing and improving reliability programs, quality programs, equipment strategies, and degradation mode mitigation
Knowledge and experience in use of mechanical design standards, specifications, and codes
Comfortable working independently, and collaboratively engaging with production unit personnel
Able to provide clear work direction through verbal and written scopes
Key Accountabilities:
Interface daily with operations, maintenance, planning, and other engineering disciplines on equipment performance issues
Develop and optimize detailed mechanical equipment inspection and repair plans for field execution
Monitor and troubleshoot mechanical equipment health including conveyors, sizers, rotary wet screens, pumps, tanks/vessels, and piping systems
Conduct and support root cause analysis investigations of mechanical equipment issues or failures
Lead mechanical engineering management of change (MOC) initiatives focused on equipment availability and cost improvements
Support in rationalizing future spend activities, preparations for outages and shutdowns, and input into planning processes

You will work out of our camp-based Fort Hills mining site, located in Alberta’s Athabasca region, 90 kilometres north of Fort McMurray, Alberta
The shift schedule is a seven (7) days on / seven (7) days off rotation
Our engineering roles follow internal compensation guidelines and the pay band will generally be based years of experience and scope of work
