Our staff is specially certified by the American Board of Surgery to treat a variety of pediatric conditions occurring throughout infancy and childhood.  When you join our team, you will be part of a supportive caregiver family that will be united in shared values and purpose to fulfill our promise of being the best place to receive care and the best place to work in healthcare. Caregivers in this specialty OR use their in-depth experience to perform complex operations with the newest surgical techniques, equipment and devices. Whether you are an experienced RN or a new graduate, all nurses entering an OR specialty unit participate in a comprehensive orientation program to ensure a smooth transition into the surgical environment. In this role, you will collaborate closely with the surgical team to deliver exceptional patient care, from the initial introduction to the final send-off. Additionally, the Cleveland Clinic system provides nurses with many professional development resources, including furthering education and online/in-person courses to enhance your skills.

A caregiver in this position will have their call and schedules assigned after orientation. Orientation is 6 months long, Monday through Friday from 7:00am to 3:30pm.   

A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

  • Provide nursing care in an operative setting to patients undergoing surgical or invasive procedures.  
  • Perform scrub and circulating functions.  
  • Prepare the OR, surgical instruments and equipment for use.  

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing 
  • Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN)  
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross 
  • One year of RN experience OR completion of Cleveland Clinic’s Perioperative Residency Program  

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: 

  • Bachelor of science in nursing (BSN). 
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross. If you do not hold this certification, you must obtain it within six months of hire

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time.
  • Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.
  • Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 25 pounds and ability to push, pull, and navigate supply carts weighing > than 75 pounds periodically.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required for procedures.
