The Automation Control team is seeking a motivated, experienced System Applications engineer to provide support to our business unit located at ADI’s Limerick site. The Automation Control business unit is focused on bringing system level solutions tailored to Analog Devices’ broad range of industrial customers. Industry 4.0 is revolutionizing the field of industrial automation across control, connectivity and robotics. A system application engineer’s role is at the leading edge of this I4.0 revolution, working with customers to define the new generations of products and leverage ADI’s broad portfolio of integrated circuits to realize system level solutions. We partner with large industrial customers to enable the transition from 4-20mA signaling to digital communications to the edge. ‘Ethernet to the Edge’ is driving large investments in industrial automation today. Industrial Ethernet solutions such as 10base-T1L are a corner stone of ADI’s I4.0 strategy, allowing seamless digital communications from the controller to the field sensor. The candidate will be working on elements of ADI’s I4.0 automation control strategy, developing demos, reference designs and prototypes. They must be comfortable with PCB design, mixed signal circuit design using ADI’s broad portfolio of technologies and have some software experience.

Responsibilities include, but not limited to:

  • Developing domain knowledge in the emerging areas in process control and industrial automation
  • Create and maintain system level applications comprising hardware, software, and documentation to support system level solutions.
  • Work in close collaboration with the development and marketing teams to develop system level solutions
  • Driving Go-to-Market activity for Automation Control solution offerings, working with the broader Automation Control system apps team to optimize or reconfigure existing solutions, developing technical articles, application notes, training material, and tradeshow demos and presentations to drive end market adoption.
  • Technical customer visits (when feasible), to help in the definition and promotion of system level solutions and help resolve design issues.
  • Collaborate with the Sustainable Automation Business Unit organization, other BU and Horizon 3 organization to develop new use cases which are consistent with ADI’s high level strategy and aspirations, along with our current capabilities and development roadmaps.

Minimum qualifications

  • BS or MS degree in electrical/electronic engineering.
  • Strong interest in analog & digital circuits, Industrial Ethernet, signal conditioning, power electronics, signal chain, signal processing, software development and system solution development
  • Comfortable in communication skills enough to conduct a technical discussion internally or with a customer.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to develop and articulate system requirements.
  • Comfortable with hardware design and development, schematic and layout tools, debug, and standard test equipment
  • Comfortable with the development of technical communications such as application notes, articles etc
  • Ability to develop and deliver demonstration vehicles for products and applications.
