Northrop Grumman Propulsion Systems is seeking an Energetic Manufacturing Engineering Manager III position overseeing all Process Engineering teams at our Kennedy Space Center, Florida facilities.

Job Description:

Role description & Responsibilities:

This position will be directly responsible for two Process Engineering organizations that support SLS Booster operations at KSC:  Mechanical Assembly manufacturing processes and Flight Controls & Electrical manufacturing processes. This position will also be responsible for managing the Aft Skirt Assembly VSET Lead and the Forward Assembly VSET lead.  This responsibility includes all Process Engineering activities for all NG SLS operations at KSC.

This includes the following:

  • Oversee the day-to-day Process Engineering activities accomplished through subordinates (Managers, engineers, VSET leads) to ensure effective pre-production readiness, real-time floor support, and effective, compliant, streamlined processes.

  • Oversee Value Stream Element Team (VSET) leads in working with Operations, Engineering, S&MA, other internal and external organizations to ensure process readiness, on-schedule production operations, zero-defect hardware, and real-time issue resolution.

  • Direct development and implementation of continuous improvement objectives within the area to improve safety, improve product quality, decrease product cycle time, reduce costs and strategically prepare for the future.

  • Ensure strong and open relationships with senior leadership, employees, support organizations, and customers at KSC and across the Business Unit.

  • Ensure all Process Engineering activities are performed in compliance with Propulsion Systems Process Engineering disciplines.

  • Successful candidate must be able to work flexible and changing shift schedules; day or night shifts, including weekends if necessary. This position will occasionally oversee 2- or 3-shift operations, up to 7 days a week.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in science, engineering, or technical discipline with 10 years of experience in an aerospace manufacturing/engineering environment; or Master’s Degree with a minimum of 7 years’ experience in an aerospace manufacturing/engineering environment.

  • 5 years minimum demonstrated experience leading and building engineering teams

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with all levels of Operations, Program Management, Engineering, S&MA, functional organizations, and all other business personnel.

  • Experience with resource planning and managing to a budget

  • Outstanding communication skills and use of M365 suite, and proficient in business systems used in Process Engineering (ESI, Costpoint, TcUA, SmartSolve, Primavera, or equivalents)

  • Experience with employee hiring and work allocation, performance evaluation, improvement plans, employee career development, interpersonal problem solving, etc.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of demonstrated successful employee leadership experience – including experience managing large scale organizations of 20 or more individuals

  • Experience working NASA programs

  • Experience working at a satellite office location

  • Hands-on experience developing and managing budgets with fluency in earned value management and proven history of effectively managing the budget for an organization. Prior experience working fixed-price contracts.

  • Experience with MRP demand-driven operations management systems (Costpoint, SAP, etc.) 

  • LEAN manufacturing and process improvement experience

  • Experience in implementing affordability initiatives that improve product quality, drive down overall cost, and/or improve schedule

  • Experience in supporting Root Cause & Corrective Action analysis using multiple methods such as fault trees, Kepner Trego analysis, 5 Why’s, etc.

Salary Range: $156,000.00 - $234,000.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
