About SimpliSafe

We’re a high-tech home security company that’s passionate about protecting the life you’ve built and our mission of keeping Every Home Secure. And we’ve created a culture here that cares just as deeply about the career you’re building. Ours is a no ego culture of collaboration and innovation where those seeking their next challenge can find big opportunities and make a huge impact on the lives of all those who we protect. We don’t just want you to work here. We want you to grow and thrive here.

We’re embracing a hybrid work model that enables our teams to split their time between office and home. Hybrid for us means we expect our teams to come together in our state-of-the-art office on two core days, typically Tuesday and Wednesday, to work together in person, and teams can choose where they work for the remainder of the week. We all benefit from flexibility and get to use the best of both worlds to get our work done.

The Job

Simplisafe is looking for a Lead Industrial Designer. In this role, you will help design our next generation of Simplisafe branded home security products. This role is a great opportunity to influence and contribute to our new hardware developments.

Today, we are the fastest growing home security company in the country competing against the entrenched giants, like ADT, and the new-to-the-space giants, like Amazon and Google. To compete in this ever-growing IoT home automation security space, we must learn and iterate quickly, work collaboratively, and deliver creatively.  In service to this challenge, we are expanding our Product Design team to produce the most cutting-edge designs on the market for our future products.

What you’ll do:

  • Collaborate Product Management, User Research and User Experience to set Industrial Design directions.
  • Identify and translate user needs into design concepts
  • Develop and oversee designs from start to finish
  • Communicate concepts to design team, other multidisciplinary teams, and vendors
  • Work across a range of different product categories, materials and manufacturing processes
  • Achieve innovative and appropriate design solutions for Simplisafe home security products
  • This position does require the ability to travel occasionally

What you’ll need to be successful:

  • Strong visualization skills: from quick concept sketching to complete presentation sketches, 3D CAD modeling (Solidworks, Rhino, Fusion 360, or similar programs), to rendering (Keyshot, VRay, or other similar programs)
  • Deep knowledge of manufacturing processes and working closely with engineers, delivering design documentations and specifying CMF (colors, materials, finish)
  • Excellent storytelling and narrative skills especially around your craft
  • An enthusiasm for building quick prototypes
  • Self-Direction towards excellent work outcomes and comfort in an ambiguous environment
  • Openness: Designers need to be flexible and open-minded. You are optimistic, generative, and open to new ideas and ways of working

Experience

  • A minimum of 6+ years professional experience in executing hardware design, outside of academic training
  • Completion of a bachelor degree in Industrial Design (or equivalent)
  • Proven track record of designing products that have both physical and digital components
  • Experience working in highly collaborative design teams, or other multidisciplinary teams.
  • Experience with high-quality consumer products is a plus.

What Values You’ll Share

  • Customer Obsessed - Building deep empathy for our customers, putting them at the core of our work, and developing strong, long-term relationships with them.
  • Aim High - Always challenging ourselves and others to raise the bar.
  • No Ego - Maintaining a “no job too small” attitude, and an open, inclusive and humble style.
  • One Team - Taking a highly collaborative approach to achieving success.
  • Lift As We Climb - Investing in developing others and helping others around us succeed.
  • Lean & Nimble - Working with agility and efficiency to experiment in an often ambiguous environment.

We wholeheartedly embrace and actively seek applications from all individuals, no matter how they identify. We are committed to cultivating a diverse and inclusive workplace, and we believe our work is enriched when we incorporate a multitude of perspectives, backgrounds, and experiences. We want everyone who works here to thrive and contribute to not only our mission of keeping every home secure, but also to making our workplace safe and supportive for others.
