Intelligent Process Automation (IPA) Intern

This internship experience provides participants with a meaningful, relevant work experience as part of their academic studies. In addition to daily responsibilities, participants will have the opportunity to participate in a series of structured activities designed to enhance their learning experience including:

At the conclusion of this position, interns will have increased their knowledge of investing, the mutual fund industry, employee engagement, and a firm understanding of how information technology (IT) works at an asset manager.

The MFS Summer Internship program is a 10-12-week program, starting June 3rd and ending on August 8th. Students work full-time, Monday through Friday, 35- 40 hours per week and are paid hourly. All applicants must be authorized to work in the United States. Internships are open to students who are rising seniors (class of 2026).

MFS is a hybrid work environment (with two remote days and three on-site days) unless otherwise stated in the job posting.

About the Intelligent Process Automation (IPA) Intern:

The Intelligent Process Automation (IPA) intern will be a resource within the Global Investment Support Intelligent Automation Program and will provide support on robotics process automation (RPA) and machine learning initiatives. They will collaborate with business stakeholders to understand business processes to define intelligent automation solutions. They will work with RPA Solutions Analysts, Machine Learning Architect, Offshore Developers and business users on the development and implementation of IPA solutions.  

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Assist in various types of interviews, meetings, or workshops with business unit subject matter experts to define automation solutions.

  • Work with Analysists to document business processes, identify automation opportunities, define intelligent automation value proposition, reengineer process to improve automation potential and recommend RPA approach/strategy.

  • Assist the Machine Learning Architect to build out models that will provide insight in anomaly detections and predictive analytics for the business stakeholders.

  • Creates, edits, revises, and finalizes life cycle deliverables such as requirements specifications and solution design documents.

  • Coordinates sign-off approvals by business and/or technical staff to certify successful results of milestone deliverable(s) or phase completion, including program development and deployment.

Job Requirements:

  • Candidate for a bachelor’s degree in a technology discipline

  • Minimum 3.0 GPA

  • Demonstrated leadership.

  • Interest in the financial services industry preferred

  • Understanding of software development lifecycle. 

  • Strong project management skills, proven analytical skills and demonstrated ability to make independent decisions.

  • Ability to multi-task and shift priorities as circumstances warrant.

  • Knowledge with process improvement methodologies (e.g., Lean Six Sigma) a plus.

  • Experience or certification with Robotic Process Automation tools (e.g., Automation Anywhere, Blue Prism, UiPath, Xceptor), with Automation Anywhere preferred, is a plus.

  • Knowledge of machine learning modeling is a plus.
