Client Group Overview
This role is organized under AllianceBernstein’s Fixed Income Business Development unit within the Global Client Group. The Client Group has a presence in the Americas, Europe, Asia and Australia, and is composed of five main areas:
- Sales & Client Services works with financial intermediaries and institutions to offer diversified investment solutions that help clients build and preserve their wealth
- Business Development is a conduit to the firm’s investment teams and supports our clients and internal business partners through investment-platform and product content, messaging, competitive analysis and education
- Product Strategy & Development designs, develops and manages the firm’s global lineup of investment services and considers clients’ evolving needs to identify new opportunities
- Marketing promotes the firm and its services by creating, packaging and distributing content and messaging to engage diverse audiences through digital platforms and initiatives, strategic campaigns, and events
- Business Transformation looks to evolve and scale our business, leveraging digital and data, to drive top-line growth and improve profitability
Job Summary
AB’s Global Fixed Income Business Development team includes approximately 30 professionals including product management and investment strategists. The individual will work closely with AB’s investment management and sales teams and focus on articulating AB’s fixed income market views and portfolio strategies with clients, consultants, and prospects. The individual will report to the Head of Fixed Income Business Development for Asia ex-Japan. Key partners (support and collaboration) will include the broader fixed income BD group, fixed income portfolio managers, other regional and local individuals, regional management, and the AB salesforce.
Job Description
The individual will serve in the dual capacity of providing adviser support, product advocacy and competitive insight for global fixed income products to Asia audience, as well as branding our regional fixed income offerings to a global audience.
The individual’s responsibilities are focused on supporting the team’s Senior Investment Strategists in preparing marketing presentations/materials, responding to ad-hoc requests from advisors, monitoring and analyzing the competitive positioning of AB’s fixed income product offerings as well as helping to create sales ideas, content and messaging. This position will primarily focus on clients and prospects based in Hong Kong, Greater Bay Area, Singapore and Southeast Asia.
In supporting the team’s Senior Investment Strategists and AB’s client advisors, the individual will be expected to work closely with portfolio managers and other team members in shaping AB’s fixed income investment message, identifying product demand trends and areas of focus.
Other specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Directly support client-facing senior investment strategists, liaise closely with internal stakeholders building strong relationships with portfolio managers, sales, product, and marketing team.
- Serve as subject matter expert for AB’s regional fixed income products alongside existing team members. Develop and promote these fixed income strategies internally and, at times, externally.
- When applicable, engage directly with clients and consultants on any investment related queries thus needing in-depth knowledge of financial markets, AB’s investment process and portfolio strategy for prioritized fixed income capabilities.
- Get involved in the origination and production of pitch books, sales kits, detailed investment related materials (e.g. inputs to RFI/RFPs), thought leadership papers.
- Conduct existing funds analysis, competitor analysis and help identify strategy positioning and pricing opportunities.
Job Qualifications & Key Attributes
We are seeking an exceptional candidate with deep understanding of fixed income markets and investment strategies in order to support AB’s fixed income range of investment funds and strategies.
The ideal candidate should demonstrate:
- A strong technical knowledge of fixed income markets and macroeconomics trends. Intellectual curiosity about global capital markets and ability to find creative ways to localize global content for the Asia client audience, working in partnership with senior investment strategists, sales and marketing team members.
- A desire to partner with AB’ fixed income investment team, in Asia and globally, and other fixed income business development team members to craft messaging and position AB strategies with prospects, clients, and consultants.
- An ability to collaborate with AB’s regional product development and strategy team to launch new products or enhance existing products. A drive to partner on various strategic projects such as AB’s onshore China business in Shanghai whenever required.
- An understanding of Asia’s competitive landscape and buy-side industry trends across various distribution channels. Understanding of market dynamics for Hong Kong / Greater Bay Area would be considered a plus.
- Strong analytical skills, collaborative attitude, exceptional attention to details, sense of ownership, strong prioritization skills and execution skills. Knowledge of buy-side databases and systems (e.g. Bloomberg, Morningstar Direct, eVestment) is a plus.
- Ability to act as a fiduciary, with strong work ethic and positive attitude. Embracing AB’s collaborative culture and being a self-starter are paramount to succeed.
- Growth mindset, problem-solving, gravitas, strong marketing and messaging skills to maintain a compelling story for AB's fixed income franchise and individual products internally, and at times, externally.
- Advanced business degree in fields such as Economics/Finance, relevant industry certifications (e.g. CFA, CAIA) a plus.
- Minimum of 8 years of relevant experience in the financial industry with Product Manager / Portfolio Specialist / Investment Consultant experience.
- Languages: Excellent spoken and written English. Chinese (Mandarin) preferred.
