Job Description
The University of Nevada, Las Vegas invites applications for Manager of Data Services, Information Technology [R0148862].
ROLE of the POSITION
The Data Services Manager provides leadership and operational direction for the Data Services unit within the Office of Information Technology (UNLV IT). The Manager is responsible for oversight and direct management of technical staff, ensuring procedures and processes are in alignment with support requirements and agreed upon service levels, communicating service-impacting events, and for the management and planning of data services deliverables. The Manager must also demonstrate a commitment to organizational values and be able to assist staff in reflecting the value of service in day-to-day activities. The Manager is actively involved in service strategy, design, transition, and operational planning and execution. The manager also contributes to project planning, which includes business analysis, resource management, and communication. The Manager is also responsible for providing appropriate metrics and reports for maximizing the efficiency and effectiveness of services and to inform improvement plans. The role also involves budget planning and resource management, focusing on cost-effective data solutions.
Under the leadership of the Manager, the unit collaborates with Enterprise Systems and other units within UNLV to define enterprise data strategy, infrastructure, and governance to optimize the business intelligence, analytics, and data integration value delivered to customers. Enables business insights to support the growth and operational effectiveness of a best-in-class, leading-edge organization that enables data-driven decision-making.
This position supports students and student success by providing data services, as well as the data platforms that enable student services across campus.
Customer Service Expectations: This position is responsible for maintaining a customer-focused approach in all duties, ensuring professional, timely, and effective interactions with internal and external stakeholders. To provide excellent service the employee will: listen to customers and understand their needs; help customers solve problems; demonstrate an eagerness to help; exhibit a professional disposition; be approachable, respectful, and team-oriented; take ownership of inquiries and assignments; provide updates for customers; and be familiar with the basic operations of the university in order to understand customer needs better.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
This position requires an earned Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university as recognized by the United States Department of Education and/or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and a minimum of six (6) years of related professional experience with at least four (4) years showing a progression in responsibilities and five (5) years of related supervisory experience supervising staff in a technical environment.
Experience in a higher education environment or a large enterprise environment is preferred.
In addition, industry certification in Data Management and industry certification in Data Governance are preferred.
Credentials must be obtained prior to the start of employment.

The ability to prioritize multiple requests for services from a broad constituent base including help requests, projects, outages, incidents, etc.
Emerging Technologies Relevant to the Provision of Data Services
Experience developing and maintaining vendor relationships to ensure: purchase of appropriate products and services; reasonable prices; and excellent service and support.
Able to stay abreast of emerging technologies to keep the university as close to state-of-the-art as feasible.
Interpersonal Skills and Communication
Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with non-technical and technical audiences.

Specific Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Related to the Management of Data Services
Experience with leading enterprise data lake, warehouse, integration, and ETL technologies.
Knowledge of data warehousing architecture and platforms
Experience with data and metadata management tools
Experience with one or more Business Intelligence (BI) platforms
Experience with data quality tools and processes
Knowledge of data analysis techniques, including SQL, data mining, and data warehousing.
Experience with embedded reporting functions for Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) products (e.g., Workday).
Expertise in logging, monitoring, and reporting on databases and servers, with strong incident management and troubleshooting skills.
Ability to anticipate customer needs and future and emerging technology trends, articulating a vision and strategy that motivates others to action.
Experience in service delivery governance, ensuring security, compliance, and audit adherence.
Preferred
Experience with cloud data and data management solutions
Experience with MySQL, Microsoft SQL, and Oracle databases
Experience with data virtualization and/or data mesh
Knowledge of designing data infrastructure, tools, and processes for use by AI
Experience with SAS Viya BI and analytics platform
Experience providing access to data infrastructure via APIs

SALARY
Salary is $128,000. Able to offer up to 6% above stated salary for highly qualified candidates with appointing authority approval.
