The Flight Nurse II and Flight Nurse III employees competently deliver and document routine patient care along with safely administering prescribed medications; recognize implications of medications with routine vs. complicated use. This position provides pre-hospital advanced life-support care to helicopter/ground transport patients across the lifespan from initial contact until patient care is relinquished to medical staff. This position performs duties to provide the highest level of patient care and to maximize patient and customer satisfaction.

Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for Hire:
Current RN licensure in Virginia or eligible
Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification (ACLS)
Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support Certification (PALS)
Current Trauma Nursing Course Certification (TNCC) or equivalent
Current Basic Trauma Life Support Certification (BTLS) or Pre-hospital Trauma Life Support Certification (PHLTS) or equivalent
Weight Restriction: maximum individual weight must be equal to or less than 235 lbs. in street clothes

Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for continued employment:
Current RN Licensure in Virginia AHA BLS HCP Certification
Current ACLS, PALS
Achieve and maintain a certification in Nursing (CFRN and or CCRN)
Achieve and maintain a certification in Transport Provider Advanced Transport Course (TPATC)
Achieve and maintain a certification in Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
Achieve and maintain the minimal of the Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Certification
Weight Restriction: maximum individual weight must be equal to or less than 235 lbs. in street clothes

Experience REQUIRED:
Minimum of five (5) years of current experience as a Registered Nurse.
A minimum of (2) years as a Registered Nurse in an intensive care setting and/or previous flight Registered Nurse experience; or Four (4) years of flight Paramedic experience;
A minimum of 2, 000 hours as a Registered Nurse in an intensive care setting and two (2) years additional Registered Nurse experience
Previous experience in use of specific equipment used for patient care (e.g. monitor, infusion pumps, etc.)

Experience PREFERRED:
Experience with language skills appropriate for the setting (i.e. able to interpret flight-related reports, health-related documents, business reports)
Academic healthcare experience Previous experience in pre-hospital trauma care

Education/training REQUIRED:
Clinical Nurse II, III: Diploma or Associates Degree from a professional nursing program recognized and/or approved by the corresponding state’s Board of Nursing.
All registered nurses without a Bachelor's degree in Nursing (or higher) will be required to enroll in an approved RN to BSN program within two years of their start date and to complete the program within five years of their start date unless grandfathered under previous requirements

Education/training PREFERRED:
Clinical Nurse II, III: Completion of a Bachelor’s Degree (or higher) in Nursing from an accredited program
Clinical Nurse III: Certification in specialty

Independent action(s) required:
Understand TJC and VCUHS standards, policies and procedures.
Understand the LifeEvac Standards of Care and policies.
Document patient care effectively.
Function under direct and indirect medical control in hospital and pre-hospital setting.

Additional position requirements:
Required to work weekends and some holidays.
Rotating Shifts.
May be exposed to hazardous situations prior to and during transport
May be exposed to extreme weather conditions
