Job Purpose:

As a Medical Science Liaison (MSL) you will be responsible for providing non-promotional, medical support to ensure the safe and effective use of ViiV’s products, through effective scientific interactions with key external stakeholders (external experts, healthcare professionals, advocates, and organizations), supporting clinical development colleagues with investigators conducting ViiV clinical trials, and providing scientific support for ViiV internal stakeholders.

As the MSL within the territory you will provide scientific clinical information and support our external stakeholders in a manner consistent with ViiV’s principles for scientific engagement.

  • This is a Field role where you will support the Western Ontario and the Prairies. The successful candidate must reside in the Toronto area and be able to commit to up to 70% travel.

  • Build Connections: Establish and nurture scientific peer-to-peer relationships with key HIV external experts. Present balanced scientific data, support medical education, and uphold industry standards, always aligning with ViiV values and guidelines.

  • Become a Virology Expert: Be the go-to scientific expert in virology within your territory. Keep a deep understanding of HIV disease, treatments, and the competitive landscape, ensuring informed and meaningful scientific discussions.

  • Adapt and Engage: Be agile and adaptable in connecting with a range of stakeholders, both internal and external. Respond to unsolicited inquiries, providing non-promotional support to healthcare professionals, investigators, advocacy groups, and formulary decision-makers.

  • Bridge the Gap: Act as the primary link between the healthcare community in your territory and internal ViiV teams. Gather insights to shape current and future business strategies.

  • Represent at Conferences: Attend and provide scientific support at medical exhibits and scientific sessions in regional, national, and international medical conferences as required.

  • Empower Sales Teams: Deliver scientific training for ViiV sales representatives using approved materials, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of ViiV products and the conditions they treat.

  • Collaborate on Clinical Development: Work seamlessly with clinical development teams to identify potential clinical trial sites and provide scientific support to internal stakeholders as needed.

Basic Qualifications:

We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:

  • Advanced post-graduate scientific degree (MD, Ph.D., M.Sc., PharmD).

  • Strong aptitude for applying scientific and medical data in peer-to-peer discussions.

  • Exceptional public speaking and scientific presentation skills.

  • Outstanding interpersonal skills, focusing on teamwork and strategic execution of medical affairs plans.

  • Knowledge of regulations governing medical information exchange in the Canadian pharmaceutical environment.

  • Sound negotiation, leadership, and organizational skills.

  • Valid driver's license for this field-based position. *

  • Ability to work independently and travel up to 70% within the territory.

*This position requires the employee to drive routinely on Company business and allows for the provision of a company – leased vehicle. However, to be eligible for this position and a company vehicle, ViiV will need to obtain acceptable results from a license verification inquiry and drivers abstract review against its safe driver program requirements.

Preferred Qualifications:

If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus:

  • Previous experience in HIV/Virology/Infectious Diseases (+2 years) in a medical affairs position with established relationships/connections with associated healthcare professionals is strongly preferred.
