Summary of the role

As the Director of Finance, Institutional Markets (IM) you will be responsible for leading a team of two to support the Chief Financial Officer (CFO)’s responsibilities and functions for Institutional Markets. Institutional Markets is one of four reportable segments of Corebridge Financial and consists of the following non-retail/non-group insurance businesses: US and International Pension Risk Transfer (PRT), Structured Settlement, Stable Value Wrap, Corporate/Bank Owned Life Insurance (COLI/BOLI), and High Net Worth. Your main responsibilities will be to provide direct support to the IM CFO to execute all finance functions and operations in scope for IM, including quarter end closing, budgeting, financial forecasting and planning, capital analysis, SEC/regulatory filings, expense management, and general financial modeling and analysis. These functions described above are based on both US GAAP and US Statutory accounting rules.

This is a high profile and highly visible position within the Corebridge Financial organization where in addition to directly reporting to the IM CFO, you will have the opportunity to frequently engage and interact with, and present to the IM CEO, Heads of IM businesses, the CFO of Corebridge Financial, Head of Accounting, IM Chief Investment Officer (CIO), IM financial controller, and the Heads of other finance and non-finance departments including Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A), Capital Management, Expense Management, Investor Relations (IR), and also the Chief IM Pricing Actuary and Chief Financial Actuary.

The essential success criteria for this role are: 1) the ability to collaborate collegially with team members within the IM and Finance organizations that have diverse skills and background, and influence them to provide specific data and analysis that might be outside of their immediate responsibilities in a timely manner, and 2) the ability to multi-task and conduct hands-on financial analysis, forecasts, estimates and adjustments to respond to ad-hoc requests in parallel from Corebridge Financial executives in a timely fashion without being bogged down by low-level details.

Corebridge Financial has a hybrid work policy, the preference is for the candidate to be based in New York or New Jersey where most of the other finance colleagues are located. Candidates are expected to join meetings and work with Corebridge Financial executives and colleagues in person in an office from time to time. Candidates based in other locations would also be considered.

About the role

  • Reports to the IM CFO, with management duties of two resources
  • Work closely with the Heads of IM businesses, IM financial controller, IM CIO team members, and leads of other finance and non-finance departments, such as FP&A, Capital Management, Expense Management, IR, and Actuarial
  • Executes and provides support for all finance functions (under both GAAP and Statutory accounting) related to the IM reportable segment, including but not limited to the following:
    • Quarter closing
    • Ongoing tracking and monitoring of IM and deal financials
    • Budgeting
    • Financial forecasting and planning
    • Financial modeling and analysis
    • SEC and regulatory filings
    • Expense management
    • Capital planning and management
  • Compile Microsoft Powerpoint presentations to present financial results and analysis
  • Perform financial modelling and analysis, and adjustments to IM financials
  • Discuss and explain IM financial results and metrics in plain English to other non-IM teams such as Investor Relations
  • Expected travel would be at a minimum and no more than 10% of the time

What we are looking for

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field; MBA and/or CPA highly preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years professional experience in a Finance functional role in the financial services industry, preferably within a publicly traded life insurance company (P&C insurance and other public and private financial services companies would also be considered)
  • Experience in accounting for shares, warrants, and other financial instruments such as derivatives highly preferred
  • Basic understanding of hedge accounting highly preferred
  • ⁠Excellent judgment and creative problem-solving skills including negotiation and conflict resolution skills
  • ⁠Strong mentoring and coaching experience for a team with diverse levels of expertise.
  • ⁠Superior management skills; ability to influence and engage direct and indirect reports and peers
  • ⁠Comfortable working with large, complex data sets and financial models
  • ⁠Understanding of corporate financial planning, reporting & analysis, and costing/profitability methodologies and processes
  • ⁠Knowledge of federal financial regulations, including SEC requirements, Financial Reporting and the Sarbanes-Oxley Act preferred
  • Strong skills and experience in Microsoft Excel and Powerpoint
  • Actuary candidates are welcomed to apply, actuarial skills and experiences are highly valued, but not a mandatory requirement for this position
  • Attention to details is essential but also able to answer multiple questions swiftly by compiling ad hoc high level analysis without being bogged down by details of a single problem
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills
  • Comfortable with working in a large organization with team members located in fragmented, multiple locations
