The Security Dispatcher acts as the central communications contact for the shift officers/supervisors and for the community at large as it pertains to security-related matters. The Dispatcher must be able to multitask by coordinating radio communications, receiving incoming departmental telephone calls on three lines, monitoring alarm system displays, and disseminating information to the appropriate persons. The Dispatcher must possess excellent customer service skills.

Daily Operations

  • Keep a detailed log of all incidents; date, time and other pertinent information.
  • Download daily information pertaining to crime log and timely warnings.  The information will be provided and needs to be placed in the dispatch logbook daily. To keep the dispatch log current, old information will be removed daily.
  • Access information (on the O:\ drive) and provide this information to Shift Supervisor and/or mobile officer when requested.
  • Keep count of keys, date and time of the person being issued any key or set of keys.  The dispatcher is responsible for the correct name date and time the keys are checked out/checked in.
  • The dispatcher will call Nashville Metro Police Department for reportable crimes.  The dispatcher will also call for towing service when instructed by the shift supervisor and higher rank.
  • Perform any other tasks pertaining to the daily operations at the dispatcher’s station as needed.

Required Skills

  • The dispatcher must be clear and concise, orally and in written documentation.

Required Education and Experience

  • High school education or GED (no previous law enforcement experience required)
