The Public Safety Officer Communications and Dispatch position is responsible for staffing and operating the telephones for NWACC Police and Security Department. This position is responsible for radio communications equipment, answering campus emergency phone calls, and dispatching officers and security for emergency and non-emergency campus services.

Job Description

  • Responsible for responding to and processing incoming calls, providing pre-arrival instructions to callers, and dispatching the appropriate responding officers and/or security personnel for emergency and non-emergency calls for service.
  • Provides customer service at the walk-up dispatch window and has the ability to answer general questions or concerns.
  • Responsible for daily crime log entries and updates as required by Clery Crime regulations.
  • Participates in departmental meetings/briefings and/or online trainings as assigned by direct supervisors, or as required by the College.
  • Writes incident reports as needed.
  • Tracks officer and security personnel duty rounds and records as detailed by departmental policy.
  • Dispatches officers or security personnel to respond to alarms and calls for assistance.
  • Monitors camera feeds and other security devices such as panic buttons, fire alarm notifications, LiveSafe dispatch notifications, and other emergency notifications received at the dispatch desk in DPS.
  • Uses radio and phone to provide emergency response to calls for assistance.
  • Performs data entry, administrative paperwork, and general light office duties as required or assigned.
  • Personnel work shifts that include working nights, weekends, holidays and are subject to change in order to meet the needs of the NWACC Police and Public Safety Department and its operational needs for the College Campus
  • Regular, reliable attendance, managing multiple duties and responsibilities simultaneously, being a team player in a challenging, high-stress work environment, and getting along well with others are essential elements of this position
  • Effectively communicate with others orally and in writing
  • Ability to perform duties in high stress and challenging environment
  • Must be proficient in the use of a computer, multi-line telephone and other related software programs
  • Must be able to effectively operate standard office equipment
  • Position requires the ability to speak clearly and be understood on radio systems, as well as understand what is being said by others on the radio systems
  • Specific vision abilities required to accomplish computer and office work

Rate of pay $18.55 hourly

Required Qualifications

The formal education equivalent of a high school diploma; plus one year of security or help desk experience or a related field.
