This co-op position is an opportunity to work in the research and development team of a photonics & fibre optics company that is committed to meeting the needs of our customers.  

You will carry out analysis on large sets of device data to propel improvement in our products.  You will develop algorithms and methods that optimize the performance of our next generation of photonic modules.  You will be part of a hard-working and diverse team that is continually learning how to enhance our products.

Students working in this group are exposed to and will learn about several state-of-the-art technologies including LCoS (Liquid Crystal on Silicon), MEMS (Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems), phase modulators and other free-space optical assemblies.  In addition, students collaborate with the firmware, hardware, optical design and verification teams throughout their work terms.  This gives them an excellent opportunity to learn about the broad range of  disciplines involved in our product development process.

In this role, you will be responsible for the following…

  • Numerical and statistical analysis of small and large data sets
  • Algorithm development
  • Software development & test engineering
  • Experimental validation of design principles

What you will bring to the position...

  • You are pursuing a degree in Physics, Nanotechnology engineering, Electrical Engineering, Applied Math, Mathematical-Physics,  Computer Science, Computer Engineering or a related field
  • Most importantly, you will bring your enthusiasm to learn, develop your skills and expand your knowledge
  • Proficient software development skills and experience
    • We typically program in Python and .NET, but it is not imperative that you know these languages in advance
  • An ability to communicate well both verbally and in writing
