OVERVIEW: Pratt Miller is seeking an engineering intern who would support the Vehicle Dynamics CAE department for the Product Development Group.

The ideal candidate will apply engineering expertise to solve engineering design and development problems. These efforts can be applied to short or long-term projects, including virtual prototype development, design and development, testing assistance, and engineering analysis.
 

This position will require working individually or with a small team of designers / engineers to execute customer projects. Projects may include motorsports, automotive, defense, and commercial industries. The candidate must also be dependable, time conscious and work efficiently to achieve department goals on a weekly basis with minimal supervision.
 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Typical responsibilities include but are not limited to all of the following:

  • Perform CAE and test-based analysis to support the delivery of Vehicle Dynamics performance
  • Provide feedback on existing CAE tools to create and streamline efficiency
  • Interaction with current and potential customers regarding the use of Pratt Miller core technologies
  • Support development of material for education and training purposes, both for external customers and internal employees
  • Ability to communicate professionally, both verbally and in writing
  • Able to perform in a dynamic and fast paced environment
  • Support vehicle test as required
     

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Completed course work toward BS in Mechanical, Aerospace or similar engineering education
  • Relevant experience with multibody simulation engineering analysis work, vehicle dynamics, and/or control system development during internships, co-ops, and/or student projects
  • This position requires technical writing skills for reports and specifications using MS Word and Excel; good platform skills using PowerPoint for presentations.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to manage his/her own workload to meet important deadlines
     

DESIRED SPECIALIZED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

  • MSC ADAMS product line, CarSim, MotionView, Dymola, Matlab and Simulink
  • Member of student engineering projects teams (Formula SAE, Baja, AutoDrive, etc)
  • Experience with DOE, DFSS, and optimization tools such as HEEDS
  • Experience with data analysis or visualization tools such as Motec i2, Pi, or Tableau
  • Experience in programming languages such as Python, Fortran, or C
  • Basic skills in FEA (NASTRAN/ANSYS/ABAQUS) and CAD (ProE, Unigraphics, Catia) a plus
