An exciting opportunity has been created for a Software Engineer within the Insurance and Asset Management Product team. We create and maintain applications for the bank in various technologies using online applications (APIs, Microservices), have also processes in Spark/Scala in Hadoop and some other legacy components in mainframe.
For this position you will provide technical analysis and coding skills in JAVA (Springboot) on all aspects of business change and on-going projects and also will take the ownership of an existing JAVA application.
The role will manage end-to-end from software design and development to release to final customer, including testing and deployment, so you will be involved in the design discussions in order to get the most appropriate solution which then will help to gain functional knowledge and experience in the Insurance domain for the application maintenance.
The difference you’ll make:
Developing systems and processes according to user stories, fundamentally batch processes
Participating in the detailed definition of user stories
Performing unit and integrated tests in various technologies in back end such as in data lake and AWS
Developing code and ensure compatibility with quality measurement tools such as SonarQube
Optimising solutions whilst building innovative systems to be able to scale and be reused
What you’ll bring:
Extensive working experience on Hadoop framework and its components to include: HDFS, Sqoop, Hive, Scala, Apache Spark, SQL, Shell scripting and Jenkins
Experience of MobaXterm, putty, IntelliJ, GitLab, GitHub, GitHub workflows and Control-M
Experience in projects on platforms installed in AWS
Technical knowledge and development experience in Batch processes using Spark/Scala
Functional knowledge of banking financial products such as insurance and investment
Good working knowledge with creating test scenarios and test data for test cases
It would also be nice for you to have:
Experience in writing code and knowledge in Full Life Cycle development of Hadoop using CI/CD pipelines
Knowledge of Agile methodology
Excellent problem solving skills with a technical background and result orientated team player with excellent communication skills
Effective communication skills and able to work effectively with offshore team

This role is based in Milton Keynes.

To support this, we offer site-based contracts with a hybrid working pattern and our expected level of attendance in an office is at least 12 days per month (pro-rata for part-time roles).
