Shipping Coordinator Supervisor

The Shipping Coordinator Supervisor is responsible for directing a team of hourly employees in fulfilling customer orders to a high standard. Help problem solve to increase the efficiency of the operation, and work to drive development in the group. The basic function of the Lead Shipping Supervisor is to ensure all shipments are efficiently and accurately expedited per Standards of Work to ensure accuracy and timeliness of workload execution.

What You Will Do:

  • Lead, supervise and train a clerical staff.
  • Perform Annual performance review for each Shipping Coordinator.
  • Provide backup coverage for other members of administrative team.
  • Achieve a 5% reduction in freight costs in the first year.
  • Conduct quality checks and audits to ensure accuracy.
  • Ensure coordinators are cross-trained using the training metrics.
  • Oversee all load planning activities.
  • Perform end-of-month financial reporting.
  • Request LTL rates and tender LTL shipments.
  • Perform appropriate quality checks and audits to ensure accuracy.
  • Resolve shipment issues, including: no show/late issues with carriers, freight not fitting on a trailer, missing freight, anticipate/proactively manage potential late shipments, swiftly resolve past due shipments.
  • Ensure Standards of Work are followed and improved when necessary.
  • Support international shipping process and audit their accuracy.
  • Ensure that goods are shipped most efficiently following documented processes, while targeting cost reduction, freight savings, service and contractual agreements.
  • Communicate with brokers, warehouse staff and manufacturing personnel to ensure customers’ expectations are met.
  • Execute daily shipping schedule through the utilization of people, material, equipment and processes to meet customer requirements, meet compliance expectations and achieve cost objectives.
  • Provide exceptional customer service through developing good working relationships with required functional groups.
  • Manage the appointment log.
  • Monitor and update Kronos.
  • Support Safety Programs.
  • Work with others to identify opportunities for improvement and assist in creating innovative methods to streamline processes.
  • Maintain and organize records, files and data.
  • Assist and support Warehouse Operations Manager.

What You Need to Succeed:

  • Adept at planning and delegating work to others.
  • Maintain basic knowledge of logistics and warehousing processes and capabilities.
  • Able to rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
  • Ability to comprehend and interpret standard work instructions or ISO procedures.
  • Possess a strong customer service and provide support of internal and external customer requirements.
  • Able to effectively communicate with various audiences, both on the phone and in person. 
  • Ability to follow specific instructions.
  • Excellent listening skills.
  • Work cohesively with others while able to manage multiple deadlines.
  • Detail-oriented, well organized and self-motivated; able to work with minimal supervision.
  • High sense of urgency.
  • Basic problem-solving aptitude.
  • High school diploma or GED; minimum two years of logistics clerical experience.
  • Experience motivating, developing and disciplining subordinates
  • Working knowledge of stocking systems and stock control.
  • Professional communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient with ERP systems and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Knowledge and experience with operations and logistics processes.
