Leidos Health Mission Solutions is seeking a Senior Network Architect specializing in Cisco data center design for a large network services opportunity supporting the National Institute of Health (NIH) in the Bethesda, MD area, contingent upon contract award. 

Role is fully onsite in Bethesda, MD and requires US Citizen or US Person, with the ability to obtain Public Trust Clearance, level 5.

Job Summary:

The Network Architect is part of a team that will support existing large-scale enterprise network systems and architect, design and deploy new solutions to provide secure, highly available network services in accordance with existing customer service level agreements (SLAs). The Network Architect will work in collaboration with engineers, network administrators, operations, and security teams to maintain and configure network devices and software. This position will provide Tier 3 support for incident response and coordinate with vendors and service providers. The Network Architect will also work on new network initiatives, implement change requests, support process improvement, consult and provide status to customers, and generate reports and other supporting documentation.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Architect and design virtual local area networks (VLANs), wide area networks (WANs), datacenter networks, wireless networks and industrial control communications systems in accordance with SLAs
  • Provide Cisco switching and routing expertise in support of NIH data center networks
  • Evaluate the potential impacts of new network solutions on the NIH and Trusted Internet Connection (TIC) networks
  • Measure, monitor and plan network performance, usage, availability, capacity planning, and health
  • Design and implement firewall solutions and network monitoring solutions for security compliance
  • Provide strategic and tactical direction for NIH CIT Network Services enhancements and projects
  • Actively engage with the customer and other NIH organizations to define requirements and expected outcomes for new projects
  • Provide Tier 3 technical support, development of standard operation procedures, and mentoring to the operations team
  • Collaborate with the program security team to ensure compliance for changes and new capabilities
  • Support the customer for transition from traditional to software-defined enterprise networking

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering or other related discipline
  • Either an active Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE) certification plus five (5) years OR ten (10) years (without CCIE) experience architecting, designing, and operating complex, large-scale enterprise networks
  • Five years of experience configuring Cisco data center switches, routers, firewalls, and monitoring solutions
  • Experience implementing complex enterprise VLAN architectures
  • Experience architecting, designing, and implementing data center networks using Cisco, F5 and Palo Alto devices
  • Experience with scripting languages and automation
  • Knowledge of network operation, applications, hardware, monitoring, and operating systems, supporting approximately 45,000 users
  • Demonstrated ability for oral and written communication with the highest levels of management
  • Experience with network, security, infrastructure architecture activities and tasks on a medium to large government IT Infrastructure project with 24x7 mission support requirements;
  • Experience in at least six of the follow technical areas: network design and development; data center network services; virtual private network (VPN) services; Trusted Internet Connection (TIC) Services; network backbone services; collaboration with external Internet service providers (ISPs); Voice over IP (VoIP) implementation and quality management; wireless networks; IP address management (IPAM) services; Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) Services; and Cloud Network Services

Desired skills:

  • CCIE Certification very strongly preferred in the Data Center area of specialization
  • CompTIA Security+ or CISSP security certification
  • Network project management experience
  • Experience with systems that implement Cisco DNA Center
  • Deep understanding of Layer 2 and Layer 3 frameworks and protocols
  • Experience with ScienceLogic 1, F5 load balancers, and Palo Alto firewalls
  • Experience with implementing data center colocation services
  • Experience with using ServiceNow for IT service management (ITSM)
  • Hybrid cloud networking experience
  • ITIL 4 Foundation certification

Pay Range:

Pay Range $87,100.00 - $157,450.00
