Summary of Job Duties:

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES (list primary functions of the position with the percent of time generally allocated to each; percent of time must equal 100%)

20% Maintain Inventory
• Rotate and replace stored stock in the Core Lab
• Notify supervisor of inventory levels and identify items to be ordered.
• Order office supplies.
65% Lab Support Tasks:
• Evaluate specimens for adherence to lab requirements for testing including adequate identification, sample container types, sample volume, centrifugation.
• Set up specimens for testing by bench techs by putting in appropriate racks, storage conditions according to daily pending lists.
• Maintain refrigerators, freezers (defrost as needed, rotate stock, dispose of expired items).
• Assist with specimen-tracking system.
• Organize and clean workspaces.
• Screen calls to the lab and direct to the appropriate section as needed.
• Call critical results to appropriate caregiver and document per policy.
• Ensure adequate supplies required for daily operations are available at the workbench by restocking inventory and refilling water containers with filtered water.

10% Other Duties as Assigned

5% Continuing Education
• Maintain current knowledge of hospital policy, state, federal and other regulatory requirements.
• Maintain continuing education, annual education and/or training as required for position.


Customer Service: Interacts with and assists the public in a professional and friendly manner as needed. Demonstrates effective communication skills; communicates accurate and complete information; maintains strict confidentiality when necessary. Demonstrates positive working relationships with co-workers, management team, and ancillary departments; follows the Core Concepts of Patient and Family Centered Care and the Basic Code of Conduct Guidelines. Assist internal and external stakeholders as needed with exceptional customer service.


Qualifications:

High School Diploma or GED.

Must be enrolled in UAMS Medical Laboratory Sciences Program
