Licensed Veterinary Technician

We are looking for a passionate and energetic licensed veterinary technician to join our team here at Grass Lake Animal Hospital. We are a small town practice with big hearts and long standing clientele. We pride ourselves on providing high quality top notch care for our pets.
KEY TASKS
Animal Care and Treatment
- Prepare and administer medications, vaccines, and treatments as prescribed by the veterinarian.
- Monitor and care for hospitalized animals, including providing fluids, feeding, and wound care.
- Assist in restraining animals during exams or procedures to ensure safety.
Surgical Assistance
- Prepare animals and surgical equipment for procedures.
- Assist during surgeries by handing instruments, monitoring anesthesia, and maintaining a sterile environment.
- Perform post-operative care, including monitoring recovery and ensuring proper pain management.
Diagnostic Testing
- Collect and process samples such as blood, urine, and feces for laboratory tests.
- Perform diagnostic imaging, such as X-rays, and maintain equipment.
- Record and communicate test results to veterinarians.
Client Communication and Education
- Provide pet owners with clear instructions for post-visit care, medication administration, and diet.
- Explain treatment plans, preventive care options, and procedures to clients.
- Address client concerns and answer questions about animal health and behavior.
Administrative Tasks
- Maintain accurate medical records and update patient histories.
- Assist with inventory management, including ordering and stocking supplies.
- Ensure compliance with safety protocols and maintain a clean, organized work environment.
Qualifications
Education and Licensing
- Completion of an accredited veterinary technician program.
- Valid veterinary technician license in the state of MI.
Skills and Abilities
- Proficient in handling and restraining animals of various sizes and temperaments.
- Strong knowledge of animal anatomy, physiology, and pharmacology.
- Ability to operate diagnostic equipment and perform laboratory tasks.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for client and team interactions.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and carry animals weighing up to 50 lbs.
- Comfortable standing for extended periods and performing repetitive tasks.
- Tolerance for working in environments with loud noises, strong odors, and potential exposure to allergens.
