The Senior Systems Engineer is a hands-on technical leader responsible for the daily operation, optimization, and evolution of enterprise network infrastructure. This role blends deep technical execution with planning, standards ownership, and mentorship. Core responsibilities include network operations, tuning, and lifecycle management (Cisco IOS/XE/NX-OS, Palo Alto Panorama, Cisco DNA Center, Nexus Dashboard); performance monitoring and advanced troubleshooting; network design and implementation (VLANs, routing protocols (EIGRP/BGP), QoS, netflow); complex project execution; vendor and carrier coordination; accurate documentation and operational integrity; and leadership of network change management activities.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Ensure that long-term requirements for systems operations and administration are included in overall information systems planning for ThedaCare.
Ensure the security of systems.
Serve as a key contributor in creating and designing the disaster recovery plan and other strategic initiatives.
Define, implement, and manage operating system policies and procedures, and lead systems planning.
Compile and analyze system operations and make recommendations for greater efficiency.
Formulate/define specifications for complex operating software.
Ensure the integrity, accuracy, access, and security of all system hardware and operating systems.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree with 8 years of relevant experience or in lieu of bachelor’s degree a minimum of six years of progressive experience in information technology and at least three years of experience in infrastructure disciplines.
Advanced knowledge of desktop, server, and communications equipment operating systems.
Proficiency in a technology discipline or industry certifications or experience is equivalent to a bachelor’s degree.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Ability to move freely (standing, stooping, walking, bending, pushing, and pulling) and lift up to a maximum of fifty (50) pounds without assistance.
Job classification is not exposed to blood-borne pathogens (blood or bodily fluids) while performing job duties.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Non-Clinical Staff:
Normally works in climate controlled office environment
Frequent sitting with movement throughout office space
Use of computers throughout work day
Frequent use of keyboard with repetitive motion of hands, wrist and fingers
Position requires compliance with department specific competencies.
Hybrid onsite/work from home dependent on organization needs and schedule
Reside within ThedaCare service area preferred for periodic timely on call and other on site work
