Every day, tens of millions of people come to Roblox to explore, create, play, learn, and connect with friends in 3D immersive digital experiences– all created by our global community of developers and creators.
At Roblox, we’re building the tools and platform that empower our community to bring any experience that they can imagine to life. Our vision is to reimagine the way people come together, from anywhere in the world, and on any device. We’re on a mission to connect a billion people with optimism and civility, and looking for amazing talent to help us get there.
A career at Roblox means you’ll be working to shape the future of human interaction, solving unique technical challenges at scale, and helping to create safer, more civil shared experiences for everyone.
As a Senior Backend Engineer on the User Communities team, you’ll own the backend systems that power social engagement features, such as Announcements, Forums, Polls, Bug Reporting, and more, for millions of players, as well as the control plane, permissions layer, and tools for Creators to build, grow, and moderate thriving communities on Roblox.
Your day-to-day will focus on building and scaling the systems that bring players and Creators together, both inside and outside the experience. On the player side, that means creating places where people can find and connect with other members of the community, such as having conversations about the experience, discovering the latest updates, and sharing their feedback. On the Creator side, that means giving them the tools and controls to shape those spaces, including configuring custom roles, creating content, moderating discussions, and converting organic excitement into lasting engagement.
Getting there means driving architectural decisions, reasoning through trade-offs, influencing stakeholders, championing user-first safety standards, and defining developer-facing APIs that help creators make more engaging spaces. You'll work closely with frontend and backend engineers, product, design, and data scientists across teams, and you'll have real influence over our technical and product direction.
If you're an experienced engineer who gets excited about large-scale distributed systems and wants to shape the way millions of people connect inside virtual worlds, we'd love to talk.
