The Satcom Direct Government Senior Network System Engineer oversees and manages the daily operation of LAN & WAN computer networks including hardware, and software support. This individual is accountable for the Cisco hardware and IOS maintenance/upgrades, installation, maintenance, and documentation of Satcom Direct Government core services. You will monitor and troubleshoot SD Government services and data center locations to ensure proper operation and uptime.

How will you make a difference?

  • System and network engineering and design, equipment installation, backup, maintenance, and problem solving within the SDG worldwide PoP Infrastructure
  • Partner integrations and support of various SDG PoP locations with a concentration on the Ashburn, VA and Melbourne, FL locations
  • Lead and train colleagues in providing network and remote connectivity hardware/software support across the PoP Infrastructure
  • Maintain LAN/WAN user documentation including hardware/software applications, support logs and other related information in Confluence and other online document sharing programs
  • Analyze and troubleshoot network logs and track the nature and resolution of problems to include PAN connectivity, blacklist generation, and other network security monitoring
  • Monitor use to ensure security of data and access privileges; install, support and maintain both physical and virtual network servers and appliances to include virtual switches and other systems to help reduce the overall cost of operation
  • Install, maintain, and troubleshoot the Storage Area Network (SAN)
  • Engineer and design of systems operations to support future growth
  • Identify and help integrate network monitoring tools to include Scrutinizer, Net Brain, and other software that can be used through the PoP infrastructure
  • Configure, monitor, and enhance Satcom Direct value-added services in each PoP location and ensure they operate reliably and continue to generate revenue
  • Design and assist military customer applications and programs to include private networks and infrastructure services such as bonding, NATO, captive portal, Global Hawk, and others
  • Work with SD Government Tech Ops team to help with the re-design of the networks to ensure the backbone and other terrestrial areas are streamlined and integrated properly
  • Consolidate the edge and provider networks to ensure proper redundancy and reduce the footprint to reduce the monthly costs of operation
  • Re-design the overall network architecture to reduce the complexity of the design and simplify the operation in all PoP locations

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Information Technology, a technical degree or equivalent work experience
  • 5-7 years’ experience configuring and maintaining network hardware and software  
  • Some nights and weekend on-call hours required

Required Experience, Skills & Talents

  • Strong knowledge of LAN/WAN networking protocols, topologies and architecture
  • Highly experienced with LAN/WAN technologies, BGP, Routing Protocols (BGP & OSPF), and MPLS Network Design
  • Experience with installation and maintenance of Cisco router and switching hardware
  • Familiar with Cisco ACS, Palo Alto Network appliances, Layer 2/3 VPN architectures, and industry standard firewalls
  • Basic Linux Experience (CentOS/Red Hat)
  • Has worked with network automation and design
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills

Preferred Experience, Skills & Talents

  • CCNA or CCNP certification desired
  • Project Management experience with IT projects is desired
  • Must have excellent organizational skills and the ability to track and manage multiple tasks at the same time and follow them through to completion.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including ability to present complex technical information to a non-technical audience
  • Strong problem-solving skills and inherent decision-making ability

Equal Pay Disclosure(s)

Base Pay:

100,000.00 - 125,000.00 USD Annual

Target Annual Short-Term Incentive:

Bonus Plan at 10% (% of Annualized Base Pay)
