Job Summary:
The RN Clinical Nurse is a key member of an interdisciplinary team that delivers high-quality, individualized, and safe patient care. This role involves performing a variety of clinical procedures using independent judgment and initiative. The Clinical Nurse operates within a framework guided by the WellStar Professional Practice Model, evidence-based practices, and WellStar Core Competencies. Compliance with the Georgia Professional Nurse Practice Act and the American Nurses Association's Scope of Practice and Code of Ethics is essential. The Clinical Nurse also upholds patient advocacy, system policies, and service excellence goals.

Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions:

Clinical Skills:

  • Provide care during pregnancy, labor, and delivery.
  • Execute the Nursing Process (assessment, diagnosis, outcomes, planning, implementation, evaluation) using evidence-based practice.
  • Utilize critical thinking in complex patient care situations.
  • Administer medications as per system policy.
  • Perform pre-procedure preparation and safety checks.
  • Demonstrate sterile technique and IV administration competence.
  • Collaborate with patients and their families using appropriate methods for communication and care planning.

Quality and Patient Safety:

  • Verify patient identity using two identifiers.
  • Ensure accuracy of patient charts and written orders.
  • Follow verbal orders and complete necessary documentation.
  • Adhere to healthcare system policies, legal standards, and safety goals, including TJC Patient Safety Goals and WellStar Health Systems standards.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Maintain flexibility in work hours to meet department needs.
  • Complete required professional competencies, mandatory education, and specialized training.
  • Demonstrate teamwork and collaboration to enhance recruitment and retention.
  • Serve as a preceptor or mentor to other nurses and staff.
  • Manage communications effectively and maintain professionalism.
  • Introduce yourself to patients and families using appropriate scripting.
  • Handle patient transportation, privacy, and comfort.
  • Answer department phones and perform QA/QC functions.
  • Keep certifications up to date, including BLS, ACLS, and NRP.
  • Participate in staff meetings and adhere to customer service guidelines.
  • Conduct daily emergency and in-room checks.

Patient Education:

  • Educate patients, families, and support systems.
  • Provide post-procedure home care instructions.

Required Minimum Education:

  • Diploma in Nursing or Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (preferred).

Required Minimum License(s) and Certification(s):

  • RN license (Single State) or Multi-State Compact RN.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) – Instructor.
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Provider (NRP) – Instructor or Provisional.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) – Preferred.

Additional License(s) and Certification(s):

  • National certification in specialty area within 1 year (preferred).

Required Minimum Experience:

  • Minimum of 2 years of recent experience in the specified area of practice.

Required Minimum Skills:

  • Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English.
  • Basic computer skills and ability to use technology for clinical care.
  • Strong interpersonal, collaborative, and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and respond to emergencies with composure.
  • Excellent time management and critical thinking skills.
  • Current CPR certification and participation in annual safety and infection control programs.
