We’re seeking a dynamic, innovative, results-oriented Director, Product Design to lead the experience design team within our Digital Technologies organization, supporting multiple digital products across all lines of business at Travel + Leisure, Co. As the Director, Product Design, you bring a unique and powerful perspective to a wide range of digital travel products by both leading and producing strategically led, creatively driven, and precisely executed solutions.
How You'll Shine:
- Provide leadership in regards to research and strategic visions including being able to guide designers through the entire product development lifecycle. Provide a clear vision for the future of travel and the design industry with actionable design roadmaps and timelines that guide product roadmaps.
- Partner and align with the highest levels of the organization by influencing, guiding, and inspiring multiple leaders and cross-functional teams. As a strong advocate for design, you use your voice to champion human-centered solutions, leveraging metrics to demonstrate the tangible value that design brings to the table.
- Collaborate and consult with other solution providers internally and externally while articulating user and business needs across the customer journey while producing high quality digital solutions that solve journey needs. You seek out inspiration and are always up to date on industry best practices. You have a strong attention to detail and can help the team further develop theirs. You’re curious and have a growth mindset, always looking for opportunities to grow your knowledge and your own skills.
- Direct group in establishing goals and objectives and work plans, setting priorities, coordinating tasks, and reporting on activities and accomplishments. Responsible for administrative activities - talent acquisition and strategic hires, termination, promotions, performance reviews and coaching including mentoring and career development and succession planning. Direct, motivate, delegate, inspire, mentor a team and empower staff in the successful performance of their tasks and responsibilities, while encouraging innovation and creativity.
- Ensure adherence of formal processes, standards, and total quality practices, including establishing and implementing design processes that improve the product workflow and create consistency across the product design team. You are comfortable throughout all stages of the experience design process, from strategy to research to design, and put processes in place to support the variety of projects and products that the team engages in.
Travel Requirements:
- 10% - Travel to different business units or sites may be necessary.
What You'll Bring:
- Bachelor’s degree in human-computer interaction, digital marketing, communications, or related field.
- Ability to collaborate with business, product, and technology leadership in developing a long-term strategic vision, driving results across all organizational levels.
- Experience navigating the intersection of product, design, and development, with a strong perspective on how they collectively achieve business objectives and make the right tradeoffs that balance short and long-term goals.
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills, capable of effectively engaging with senior executive management, peers, and external vendors. This includes regularly reporting on activities and accomplishments to senior leadership.
- Proficiency in directing, inspiring, delegating, and empowering design teams in the successful performance of their tasks, fostering a culture of innovation and ensuring delivery of exceptional work that exceeds business and customer expectations.
- Ability to navigate ambiguity, make tough decisions with confidence and lead through adversity with a sharp focus on achieving the right outcomes.
- Adept at establishing and managing design team and product processes, from scoping and estimating to ongoing sprint planning and prioritization to coordinating tasks for the team in Jira.
- Ability to manage and effectively prioritize multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficient in planning and conducting generative and evaluative research throughout all stages of the product lifecycle.
- Extensive experience in creating and managing multi-brand and enterprise-level design systems, ensuring governance and widespread adoption.
- Competence in administrative activities such as talent acquisition, strategic hires, termination, promotions, performance reviews and coaching.
- Ability to manage and forecast departmental budgets.
- Capable of delivering accurate estimates of design work effort and resource assignments.
- Proficiency with Figma, design system best practices in Figma, and user testing platforms like Maze
- Extensive experience with responsive web and mobile app designs.
- Strong familiarity with WCAG (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines) and adherence.
- Some experience designing AI experiences, leveraging AI to enhance user experiences, and utilizing it to drive process efficiencies across the team.
- Technical understanding and aptitude.
- Additional experience with animation programs like After Effects or Lottie is a plus.
- Minimum 10 years of experience as a UX/UI Designer with at least 5 of those years managing and building a design team.
- 5+ years of experience working with C-Level executives, identifying their requirements, and working with them to provide solutions that enable the business.
- Solid portfolio highlighting strategic, research-driven solutions with an unwavering commitment to excellence in craftsmanship, execution, and decision-making across an array of projects.
- Experience in the travel industry preferred.
Experience equivalent to the education requirement may be accepted in lieu of the education requirement.
