Job Description Summary:

The Embedded Simulation Person (ESP) role will serve as a person who portrays a healthcare provider in a simulated environment in order to facilitate or meet the learning objectives of the simulation event. ESPs are highly trained individuals that embrace different types of simulated healthcare environments and strive to maintain the fidelity of the simulations as if they were real scenarios.

The ESP will serve as an active participant of the simulated scenario through activities that include, but are not limited to: role-playing for a variety of clinical roles, communicating with the control room, assisting learners in maintaining clear direction of the simulation case progression, and aiding in troubleshooting and safe use of equipment.

This is a part-time, in-person position. Hours per week and schedule varies.

Job Description:

Required Qualifications: 

Education: ADN in nursing. Current RN licensure not required. 

Work Experience: 1 year experience in applicable clinical role.  

 

Preferred Qualifications:  

Education: BSN in nursing 

Work Experience: 

  • 2 years of acute care, or ICU clinical experience 

  • Clinical work experience related to specific simulation course content (OB, surgery, neurology, etc.) 

  • Experience in healthcare simulation and/or adult education 

Skills: Navigates a dynamic and complex work environment with diplomacy and discretion.  

 

Job Description: 

  • Participate in training specific to each case to develop a complete understanding of the learning objectives and expected learner outcomes. Assist with training of standardized patients for case specific roles. 

  • Fulfill the role of the nurse in assigned simulation cases/events. Interacts with learners while assessing and caring for patients and their loved ones as a member of the healthcare team. 

  • Maintains working knowledge of basic medical equipment utilized in simulation. 

  • Provide guidance, support and direction to learners to assist them in completing the expected learner outcomes for each case. 

  • Commitment to continuous quality improvement and active participation in simulation based professional development 

  • Assists with simulation event preparation and clean up, contributes to the instruction of the event, provides feedback on the event, and participates in debrief sessions. 

  • Provide teaching demonstrations on clinical skills, to include: IV insertion, CPR components of chest compressions, airway management and use of defibrillator 

  • Role-plays for a variety of clinical roles while communicating with the control room and assisting learners in maintaining clear direction of the simulation case progression 

  • Complete cross training with the simulation technologist in basic manikin set up and operation 

  • Review simulation case documents to assist the team in understanding of the case components and creation/revision of Wichita campus specific documents 

  • Assist with inventory and management of supplies and equipment

Compensation Statement:

The pay range listed for this position is determined by our compensation program using market data and salary benchmarking. A combination of factors is considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, education, experience and training, qualifications relative to the requirements of the position, and funding. At the University of Kansas Medical Center, a reasonable estimate for the starting pay range will be the minimum to midpoint of the posted range, taking into account the combination of factors listed above.
