Job Description:

Summary

Information Technology Services (ITS) at Iowa State University is seeking highly skilled applicants for a System Analyst I position on the Identity Services team. This role offers a unique opportunity to work with modern, cloud‑based identity technologies that support the university’s academic, research, and administrative missions.

The individual in this position will help ensure campus and customer needs are met by contributing to the architecture, design, and implementation of forward‑looking identity solutions. The work spans a broad set of technologies, including—but not limited to—Microsoft Entra, Azure, Active Directory, Microsoft 365, Exchange Online, and Google Workspace for Education.

The ideal candidate will have experience supporting enterprise identity or directory services, working in hybrid or cloud environments, and collaborating with technical and non‑technical stakeholders. They will bring a strong foundation in troubleshooting and problem resolution, an understanding of authentication and access concepts, and the ability to document and communicate technical solutions clearly. Familiarity with automation, scripting, security best practices, and change management processes is highly valued, along with a desire to learn and adapt as identity technologies continue to evolve.

Example of Duties

  • Monitor systems and servers, resolve routine issues, and maintain system utilities.
  • Assist with testing systems and checking compatibility of hardware and software with Identity systems.
  • Implement and maintain account lifecycle management, including user access reviews and permissions management.
  • Create and maintain simple PowerShell scripts to automate routine tasks.
  • Troubleshoot system issues and work with senior staff, campus IT partners, or vendors when needed.
  • Implement and maintain access control to single sign-on applications.
  • Participate in documenting system designs and technical requirements.
  • Test new or updated systems and report results and issues.

This position offers the opportunity for hybrid work but does require the employee to reside in the state of Iowa on or before the start of employment.

Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on an ongoing basis without sponsorship. Immigration sponsorship is not available for this position.
