The Digital Manufacturing (DM) Team’s mission is to simplify processes and experiences to drive Pfizer Global Supply (PGS) outcomes. DM is responsible for the digital transformation of all processes across shop floor, engineering, environment, health, and safety operations. Our programs are led by user experience and design thinking to understand the journeys that our PGS customers work through daily. DM drives efficiencies in end-to-end operations by embedding predictive and prescriptive insights from artificial intelligence into our manufacturing and cross-functional applications.

Role Overview:

We do this by driving efficiencies in end-to-end operations through the embedding of predictive and prescriptive insights from artificial intelligence into our manufacturing, quality, and cross-functional applications at Pfizer.

We are seeking a Senior Director, Smart Mfg. Foundations & Sustainment to join the Digital Manufacturing Team, responsible for using technical expertise to define the standards for data, master data, and analytics for the organization, collaborating closely with counterparts in the broader PGS and Digital organizations. Although the leader doesn't directly manage products and solutions, they should have a deep understanding of the latest trends in the industry, including shop floor and cloud technologies, as well as both generative and conventional AI/ML. Their role involves working closely with product and solution teams to explore and implement these technologies. Effective communication, respect for diverse opinions, and the ability to build trust are essential for creating a positive and supportive work environment. Additionally, this leader must work in partnership with the Principal Engineer of Global Supply to align with the AI strategy and assist in piloting and deploying new use cases.

The Senior Director will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of manufacturing processes, ensuring they are industry-leading, data-driven, and aligned with the organization’s strategic goals.

Responsibilities:

Manufacturing AI Engineering:

  • Work with Principal Engineer of Global Supply to identify the latest technologies in AI Engineering.
  • Design, pilot, incubate, and work with product and solution teams to implement scalable AI solutions to improve manufacturing operations, processes, and product quality.
  • Ensure collaboration with IT and solution teams to effectively integrate AI technologies.

Manufacturing Data Management:

  • Work closely with AIDA (internal Digital team) to design and implement a robust data strategy that supports and enhances cross-functional efforts across Digital Manufacturing. Ensure all data management practices adhere to legal standards and organizational policies, maintaining data integrity and confidentiality.
  • Work closely with AIDA to oversee the management and integration of Master Data Management (MDM) systems to ensure data accuracy and usability and define the structures and strategies for data processing, quality control, and storage.
  • Work closely with AIDA to establish and maintain a framework that supports data accessibility and accountability across the organization and aligns with standards across the broader Digital organization.

Manufacturing Delivery Practices and Processes:

  • Adopt the PGS scaled agile framework (SAFe) for manufacturing to streamline the application of agile practices throughout PGS, enhancing our ability to deliver PGS business value more efficiently and effectively.
  • Adhere to GMP guidelines and processes to reduce production risks and ensure our outputs align with PGS business requirements.

Analytics Foundation:

  • Work with stakeholders in broader Digital to develop and maintain an analytics framework to enhance decision-making and operational efficiency.
  • Work with stakeholders in broader Digital to establish and maintain governance frameworks to ensure data accuracy, consistency, and security, supporting the organization's strategic objectives and compliance requirements.
  • Work with solution teams to ensure seamless integration of analytics with existing manufacturing systems for real-time data processing.

Manufacturing AI Ops:

  • Manage the operational aspects of AI solutions in manufacturing to ensure reliability, efficiency, and sustainability.
  • Work with product and business teams to ensure implementation of best practices for AI operations to optimize performance and minimize downtime.

Shopfloor Advanced Technology (AR/VR):

  • Recommend use cases for and coordinate the deployment of AR/VR technologies for training, maintenance, and operations enhancement.
  • Explore emerging technologies that offer competitive advantages and identify use cases where these can be deployed and integrated.

Leadership:

  • Define and execute the strategic vision for integrating smart technologies into manufacturing operations.
  • Lead and inspire a culture of innovation and continuous improvement in manufacturing practices.
  • Develop and implement sustainable practices and technologies, aligning with global standards and regulations.
  • Communicate effectively with all levels of the organization and external partners to align manufacturing technology initiatives with business goals.
  • Represent the manufacturing technology department in executive meetings and external forums.
  • Build, mentor, and lead a team of specialists in advanced manufacturing technologies.
  • Ensure Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) within a team and establish clear diversity goals, fostering an inclusive culture, and ensuring all team members actively contribute to a respectful and equitable workplace.

Basic Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 15 years of experience in manufacturing operations, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
  • Demonstrated expertise in AI/ML, analytics, cloud, and AR/VR technologies in a manufacturing context.
  • Proven leadership in sustainability and operational efficiency.
  • Proven experience with ML Ops, cloud computing, technical operations, and data integration.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and execute strategic digital initiatives that integrate with and enhance core manufacturing processes.

Additional Skills/Preferences:

  • Certifications in Project Management (e.g., PMP), Cloud Technologies (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect), or related fields.
  • Expertise in implementing scalable machine learning solutions.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to solve complex technical problems.
  • Excellent communication and people skills.

Additional Information:

  • This role may require occasional travel to sites for team collaboration, stakeholder meetings, and on-site assessments.

The annual base salary for this position ranges from $191,300.00 to $318,800.00. In addition, this position is eligible for participation in Pfizer’s Global Performance Plan with a bonus target of 22.5% of the base salary and eligibility to participate in our share based long term incentive program.
