Job Description Summary

The Parts Engineering Technical Leader is a highly experienced and influential member of the Parts Engineering team, responsible for providing advanced technical leadership and engineering support for complex, urgent, and high-impact engineered (PRL4) and transactional (PRL3) flowpart quotes and orders. This role serves as a key authority within the Steam Power Parts business and works across a cross-functional team of commercial, fulfilment, engineering, materials management, sourcing, and manufacturing colleagues to deliver critical parts solutions that support GEV customers worldwide.

The Senior Parts Engineer is expected to manage the most challenging projects, lead resolution of ambiguous or high-risk issues, and contribute to business growth through improved responsiveness, technical accuracy, and process excellence. In addition to executing work, this role provides technical mentorship, guides standard work development, managing KPIs and influences strategies that improve the quality, speed, and consistency of parts fulfillment.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

The primary responsibility of the Senior Parts Engineer is to provide advanced support for complex, urgent, and business-critical engineered flowpart quotes and orders. This includes, but is not limited to, some or all of the following activities:

  • Advanced Parts Engineering
  • Identify requirements for steam turbine engineered flowparts and critical components.
  • Review orders, quotes, and technical data to determine correct part solutions.
  • Evaluate complex, non-standard, obsolete, or legacy part requests.
  • Ownership of Complex and High-Priority Work
  • Manage complex, urgent, and high-priority opportunities.
  • Support outage and expedited requests requiring timely technical decisions.
  • Assess risks and recommend solutions when information is limited or unclear.
  • Configuration and Design Integrity
  • Ensure configuration data is accurate and updated in applicable systems.
  • Maintain part applicability, interchangeability, and traceability.
  • Resolve data gaps and documentation inconsistencies
  • Technical Support and Cross-Functional Leadership
  • Respond to engineering requests from field and commercial teams.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to deliver accurate parts solutions.
  • Clarify technical requirements and support order execution.
  • Problem Solving, Continuous Improvement, and Technical Leadership
  • Lead resolution of recurring technical and process issues.
  • Drive process improvements and standardization.
  • Mentor junior engineers and share technical knowledge.

Required Qualifications

  • Technical University or College Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Energy Engineering, Mechatronics, or related technical field
  • Strong ability to read, interpret, and comprehend technical documentation such as technical drawings, Bills of Materials, material specifications, electrical schematic diagrams, and system block diagrams
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Access
  • Must be fluent in written and spoken English
  • Strong oral, written, and telephonic communication skills in English
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and integrate effectively across functions within the business
  • Demonstrated ability to utilize initiative, sound technical judgment, and independent decision-making in daily work
  • Strong ability to solve complex technical and process problems with limited guidance
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, presentation, and influencing skills
  • Proactive and structured approach to problem solving

Desired Characteristics

  • Experience in the energy industry, with relevant experience in parts engineering, design engineering, field engineering, steam turbine engineering, or related technical roles
  • Strong familiarity with power plant equipment, operations, and maintenance
  • Demonstrated experience handling complex or urgent technical parts requests in a customer-facing or execution-focused environment
  • Prior experience in drafting, design engineering, or field engineering
  • Prior experience with COPICS/COSDOM, Parts ERP, and PLM
  • Experience with PGPLM, SBOM, PMX, and RPDM
  • Ability to read drawings and strong familiarity with BOM structures, product definition, and configuration management
  • Six Sigma / Lean training preferred
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor others and lead technical/process improvements across a team
