This Position reports to:

Division HSE & Sustainability Manager


 

Your role and responsibilities

In this role you will have the opportunity to lead a team of HSE experts. Each day, you will make sure the team keeps developing capabilities and skills, supporting the business in the implementation of policies, practices and programs. You will also showcase your skills by supporting behavioural change and HSE learning within the organization.

This role contributes to Automation within the Measurement & Analytics Division.

You will be mainly accountable for:

  • Assist line managers and supervisors in understanding their obligations, liabilities, and requirements while ensuring adherence to ABB Way HSE SA Management System and local HSE laws.

  • Ensure effective use of tools for HSE incident reporting and maintain ISO 14001 and OHSAS 45001 certification compliance across operations.

  • Monitor and report HSE performance against Group objectives, implement global HSE/SA strategic actions, and manage BL and LBL HSE targets.

  • Promote positive behavioural change, optimize HSE capabilities, and define training needs aligned with standards and best practices.

  • Guide and develop the HSE function through competency assessments, structured leadership, and alignment to organizational standards.

Qualifications for the role

  • You are highly skilled in implementing HSE programs and methodologies aligned with ABB Way HSE/SA standards and have deep knowledge of the large manufacturing, mega projects, or service organization operations market.

  • You have 10 –15 years of relevant HSE management experience, working as a qualified HSE professional with experience in international HSE regulations, project and site management capabilities, and managing risks end-to-end

  • Possess an enhanced knowledge of HSE management systems, with a university degree and professional qualifications, such as the NEBOSH International Diploma or Chartered Safety Professional status.

  • You are committed to improving safety culture, promoting stakeholder collaboration, and leading complex, multi-site teams in delivering challenging HSE results.

  • Degree in Health, Safety, and Environment Management or equivalent, with leadership skills in motivating and engaging both direct reports and peers.

  • You are at ease communicating and collaborating across diverse geographies and cultures, with experience in managing global operational footprints and contractor management.
