Your Opportunity
One Temporary (Up to 8 Months) Full Time Position starting in January 2025
Are you a creative and motivated student with a passion for taxation and a strong desire to gain practical experience in a dynamic setting? Capital Power is currently looking for a Co-op Student, Taxation. This is an outstanding chance to collaborate with an accomplished team, enhance your abilities, and make a valuable contribution to our ambitious objectives.
Reporting to the Manager, Taxation, the Co-op Student, Taxation is accountable for supporting the preparation and completion of tax reporting and to help with tax compliance activities to support various departments within Capital Power including Valuations, Business Development, People & Culture, and Payroll.
You will contribute to our team by:
Assisting with the preparation of corporation income tax and information returns.
Supporting the preparation of quarterly and year-end income tax provisions, including tax adjusting journal entries and tax note disclosures.
Helping with the preparation of corporate tax instalment calculations.
Performing and maintaining an analysis of expense accounts throughout the year to determine the accurate tax treatment of expenses for legal entities.
Assisting with data gathering and analysis for tax research, income tax audits, cash tax planning, and tax reorganizations.
Proactively pursuing opportunities to advise on and successfully implement process improvements to the group’s procedures.
Developing relationships and collaborating with cross-functional teams such as Finance, Treasury, Business Development, Budget and Forecast.
Displaying a determined, responsible, safe, focused, innovative and goal-oriented attitude.
What you will bring to the role:
Knowledge:
Nearing completion of a post-secondary Degree specializing in Accounting or Finance.
Registered in a Co-op program of an accredited post-secondary institution.
Interest in pursuing a CPA (Chartered Professional Accountant) designation.
Technical Skills:
Accounting skills required to prepare reports/reconciliations to meet tax related requirements.
Interpretive analytical skills required to identify potential problems in scope of position responsibilities.
Ability to effectively engage other areas of expertise required to work as part of an effective team and resolve issues.
Strong data analysis and computational skills in Microsoft Excel and similar tools.
Strong planning and organizational capabilities, and independent problem-solving skills.
Demonstrated quantitative, qualitative, analytical and problem-solving skills.
Strong written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
Working Conditions:
Hybrid Office/Work from home position; Tuesday to Thursday in the Office, Monday and Friday at home except when office presence is necessary.
Additional Details:
Union: CSU52 - BUCO
Wage: $33.62 per hour
Hours of Work: 8 hours per day, 40 hours per week
