AssetMark is a leading wealth management platform dedicated to empowering independent financial advisors. Our mission is to enable advisors to make a profound difference in the lives of their clients. Over 10,000 advisors partner with AssetMark for our investment offerings, innovative technology, advanced services, and expertise—using our platform to delight clients and grow their businesses.

We can only consider candidates for this position who are able to accommodate a hybrid work schedule and are close to our Concord, CA office.

The Job / What You’ll Do

We are looking for a Director, Engineering Manager to lead our Enrollment and Servicing frontend team—owning the mission critical user interfaces relied on by our financial advisor clients and our operations professionals to open and enroll in accounts and provide servicing on the same.

This is a frontend-first leadership role. We are specifically seeking a leader deeply committed to frontend engineering craft and user experience. The right candidate is passionate about the frontend domain and wants to advance their career and team there.

This is a player-coach role (~40% hands-on) that will lead a multi-squad team. The ideal candidate insists on staying close to the code, product, and user experience.

This role is fundamentally about building great product—executing against a significant, highly commercial roadmap that directly impacts advisor productivity, client experience, and business growth.

You will partner deeply with Product and Design, operating in durable, embedded team structures with strong 1:1 relationships across disciplines.

You will help AssetMark build out our new Global Capability Center (GCC) in Hyderabad, India.  You will help hire and bootstrap the next generation of front end engineers for AssetMark and build a global engineering culture based on pride of craft and partnership around purpose.

What You’ll Do

Build and Ship High-Impact Product

  • Lead the team in delivering against a large, complex, and commercially critical product roadmap
  • Own execution quality—ensuring teams ship reliably, quickly, and with high standards
  • Translate product priorities into clear engineering plans, sequencing, and trade-offs
  • Drive a culture of accountability for outcomes, not just output
  • Continuously improve how the team delivers—balancing speed, quality, and scalability

Lead, Coach, and Build Talent

  • Lead and develop a multi-squad frontend engineering team, with a strong emphasis on growing junior and mid-level engineers into exceptional talent
  • Establish a culture of craft excellence, mentorship, and continuous improvement
  • Act as a hands-on technical leader, contributing meaningfully to the codebase (~40%+)
  • Hire and retain engineers who care deeply about UX, performance, and code quality
  • Build out our Global Capability Center in Hyderabad

Champion the Frontend Craft

  • Champion frontend patterns (component-driven design, declarative approaches, state management discipline)
  • Shape how we leverage AI-assisted development in all aspects of the SDLC
  • Drive consistency in design systems, UI frameworks, and shared components
  • Ensure high standards for performance, accessibility, and usability
  • Partner with platform teams on BFF integration patterns, while maintaining clear frontend ownership boundaries

Build Exceptional User Experiences

  • Lead teams building intuitive, performant, and elegant applications for advisors and investors
  • Raise the bar on interaction design, responsiveness, and perceived performance
  • Ensure tight alignment between design intent and engineering execution
  • Push teams to think beyond features—to end-to-end experience quality

Partner Deeply with Product & Design

  • Operate in tight, durable partnerships with Product and Design leaders embedded in your teams
  • Contribute to product strategy with a strong point of view on what great experiences look like
  • Translate ambiguous product goals into clear technical direction and execution plans
  • Foster a culture of shared ownership across Engineering, Product, and Design

Drive Execution Across Multiple Squads

  • Own delivery across a portfolio of frontend teams, balancing speed, quality, and sustainability
  • Establish clear engineering standards, patterns, and ways of working
  • Guide teams through complex cross-application workflows and shared dependencies
  • Lead through ambiguity while maintaining high velocity and high standards

What You Bring

Frontend Leadership & Craft

  • Deep expertise in modern frontend development (React, TypeScript, mobile frameworks, etc.)
  • Strong point of view on UI patterns, state management, and performance optimization
  • Passion for design systems, usability, and interaction quality
  • You care not just about what you build—but how it feels to the user

People Leadership & Talent Development

  • Proven ability to develop junior and mid-level engineers into high performers
  • Experience leading multi-team / multi-squad teams
  • You view management as a craft of talent stewardship and growth
  • You create environments where engineers learn fast and do their best work

Player-Coach Mindset

  • You are hands-on by choice, not by necessity
  • Comfortable contributing to production code, code reviews, and design discussions
  • You lead through example, not just direction

Product & Execution Mindset

  • You think like a product partner, not just an engineering leader
  • You ask why before what, and what before how
  • You are highly focused on execution and delivering business impact
  • You thrive in environments with meaningful scope, urgency, and accountability

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field
  • ~10–15+ years of software engineering experience, primarily in frontend development
  • Experience leading frontend teams in high-scale, product-driven environments
  • Experience in fintech or regulated industries is a plus

Why Join AssetMark?
