Job Description Qualifications:

Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) in St. Louis/Berkeley, MO has several openings for Structural Flight Operation Mechanics supporting multiple programs.

Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Structural Flight Operation Mechanic to join our team. The primary responsibility of this role is to assemble, install, and test structural components and systems according to engineering specifications and industry standards. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in aircraft structures, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

Individual job duties may include, but are not limited to:

• Perform operational checkout of aircraft prior to and during preflight.

• Maintain aircraft maintenance records

• Perform activities prior to flight status and final inspection and daily maintenance of completed experimental aircraft or major modification to experimental aircraft.

• Inspect and/or perform bench and flight line operational checkout and inspect, troubleshooting, adjustment and repair of electrical and electronic systems.

• Use and adjustment of electronic test equipment used exclusively by production.

• Perform aircraft flight line operational checkout, troubleshooting, adjustment and repair of any electrical or electronic system.

• Perform operational checkout of hydraulic systems and mechanical systems.

• Diagnose and correct hydraulic and mechanical malfunctions.

• Perform engine removal/installation as assigned. Install, repair, and replace reservoirs, power distribution panels, generators, pumps, actuators, and aircraft engines.

• Install or replace cockpit instruments.

• Splice, route, clamp, solder, and string tie wires or wire bundles.

• Repair, install and hook up bomb, missile and rocket racks and pylons.

• Remove and Install ejection seats and guns. Install adjust, repair, and replace structural parts and assemblies.

• Hole layout and fabricate parts such as skins, straps, doublers, doors, test panels, clips, brackets, angles, gussets, and ribs without the aid of jigs and fixtures. Experienced with reaming close tolerance/interference fit holes.  Experience with removing/installing interference fit fasteners and repair bushings.

• Modify aircraft components.

This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

The following Physical Demands may be requirements of this job:

Limited (0-1 Hrs) Crawling, Lying Down (back, front, side), Forceful grasping, Occasional (1-3 Hrs) Requires lifting, pushing, pulling, and supporting up to 35lbs, bending at the waist, kneeling, crouching, squatting, reaching. The position may have frequent (3-6 hrs) exposure to Noise. Exposure to noise, hazardous chemicals, moving parts and occasional exposure to high/exposed places. Frequent lifting, pushing, pulling up to 35 lbs. Frequent standing, reaching, handling, and turning. Working on elevated and/or uneven surfaces. This position requires eye, hearing and other personal protective equipment, frequent (up to 8 hours) of standing, occasional (1-3 Hrs) climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, squatting, and working on ladders. Use of personal protective equipment for face/eyes and ears may be required.

Security Clearance and Export Control Requirements:

This position requires the ability to obtain a US Security Clearance for which the US Government requires US Citizenship. An Interim U.S secret clearance Prestart and final U.S. secret clearance Post Start is required.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • 3+ years of experience with aircraft structural parts fabrication, assembly processes and procedures
  • 3+ years of experience with sheet metal assemblies, drilling, countersinking, riveting, and fastener installation
  • Experience with non-porous metals, such as aluminum, titanium, and stainless

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Experience with repair and build of aircraft mechanical assemblies
  • Aircraft flight line experience
  • A&P license
  • Experience with aircraft mechanical component troubleshooting, repair procedures and replacements of parts

Typical Education / Experience:

High school graduate or GED. Prefer a minimum of one (1) or more years of related work experience.

Additional Information:

  • The selected candidate must be able to work any shift, as assigned.
  • This is an hourly position governed by the IAM Collective Bargaining agreement.
  • New Hires, as well as employees who transfer from non-union positions, may be required to attend some type of training upon their start. All new employees, rehires without seniority or transfers from outside of IAM 837 jurisdiction, shall be regarded as probationary during their first one hundred twenty (120) calendar days of employment.  Continued employment is contingent upon successful completion of any required training and the probationary period.

Summary pay range: $24.15/$37.17 Hour to start, with maximum potential to earn $44.57/Hour
