. GENERAL SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Manager of Radiation Oncology with accountability to the Facilitator of Radiation Oncology, performs all functions within the role of a Radiation Therapist.
II. REPRESENTATIVE FUNCTIONS:
Accurately documents all required element treatment plan on the department linear accelerators and simulations on a CT scanner as ordered.
Accurately documents all required elements of care and treatment within the hospital and department specific EMR. Reports any misadministration to the Radiation Oncologist and Manager.
Observes clinical condition of the patient on a daily basis and refers potential treatment reactions and/or problems to the Radiation Oncologist and Radiation Oncology Nurse.
Performs daily machine QA and reports malfunctioning or equipment failure to the Radiation Physicist and Manager.
Prepares immobilization devices such as aquaplast casts and alpha cradle/vac fix body moulds.
Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to assess, treat and care for adolescent, adult and geriatric patients. Implements assessment/treatment and care based on the developmental stages of the patient. Involves family/guardian in the plan of care and conducts patient and family education, as appropriate, considering the developmental needs of the patient.
Follows all departmental guidelines, procedures and protocols for charging.
Attends weekly and monthly meetings including hospital wide, department and therapist meetings and quality improvement committee.
Adheres to all Northwest Community Hospital standards, policies and procedures.
III. SPECIAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
The analytical skills necessary to assess a patient’s condition and to utilize radiation oncology training and professional judgment in providing comprehensive, high quality care to cancer patients.
A high level of interpersonal skills necessary to communicate with patients, family members, physicians and other members of the health care team.
The ability to use independent judgment to complete tasks.
The ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
Computer skills necessary to fulfill the job responsibilities.
IV. KNOWLEDGE, PRACTICAL EXPERIENCE AND LICENSURE/REGISTRATION REQUIRED:
Graduate of an approved AMA Radiation Therapy program.
Registered or eligible for registry by the ARRT in Radiation Therapy Technology.
Licensed by the Illinois Department of Nuclear Safety.
Knowledge of and/or experience in the correct use of body mechanics.
Current CPR certification.
