Position Summary

As an Inclusion Camp Supervisor, you will help children make memories leading and supervising the specialized camp programs designed for campers with disabilities, ages 4-18 years of age. You’ll be responsible for the administration, program delivery and supervision of Town of Milton adapted camp programs to ensure all activities are safe, fun and appropriate. This position reports to the Inclusion Camp Coordinator

Major Job Responsibilities

What will you be responsible for?

  • Creating daily activity plans for up to 8 weeks of adapted camp programs along with other neuro typical programs that uphold the principles of HIGH FIVE®

  • Assist with intake process of campers; if required, meet with parents in advance of camp to  gain a better understanding of the camper’s individual needs

  • Support Inclusion Support Workers and Camp Leaders with program adaptations or alternative program options, ensuring meaningful participation of all campers

  • Assisting with tasks of personal care including; changing, toileting and feeding as required

  • Responsible for the documentation and administration of medication to participant(s) as outlined in our medication policy

  • Offer support when addressing parent concerns and communicate to the Inclusion Coordinator all parental/public concerns and all camper accidents and incidents

  • Actively participate with the daily delivery of programming, including staff break and swim coverage to ensure the program quality is safe and fun for all participants

  • Maintaining a complete understanding of our standard operating procedures, and supporting the Camp Coordinator in applying the established rules and guidelines that oversee the safety and conduct of campers

  • Supporting Inclusion Camp Coordinator and Behaviour Specialists in facilitating site-specific training for Camp Leaders

  • Supervising and being visible in all aspects of the camp setting – daily sign in/sign out, set–up/takedown, ensuring program supplies/equipment are set up and put away daily

  • Communicating with parents/guardians at sign in/out about the camper’s day; sharing reminders, successes and challenges

  • Providing effective leadership and mentorship, to Inclusion Support Workers and Summer Camp Program Leaders, and assisting Inclusion Coordinator with performance evaluations as required

  • Scheduling weekly swim buddies, communicating with Aquatics Staff regarding swim programming, and acting as a swim buddy in the water during camp swims as required

  • Providing support during our extended care periods (7:30-8:30am & 4:30-5:30pm) as required

  • Following all departmental safety standards and practices and Employee Code of Conduct

  • Assisting the Behaviour Specialists with behaviour management tracking

  • Performing all other duties as assigned

Education & Experience

What will we need from you?

  • Ability to work 40 hours per week for the duration of July & August camp programs, to a maximum of 44 hours. Hours vary based on program registration numbers

  • Attendance at all mandatory, paid trainings and program planning time that occur during evenings and weekends throughout May and June is a condition of employment

  • Attendance at all mandatory, paid bi-weekly staff meetings that occur outside of camp hours

What skills and experience are we looking for?

  • Attending or completion of a post-secondary education in Recreation Therapy, Educational Support/Assistant, Early Childhood Education or a related discipline

  • Minimum two (2) years’ experience working in a camp environment; supervisory and program planning experience preferred

  • Experience working with persons with disabilities required

  • Able to perform all activities including but not limited to lifting a minimum of 50 pounds

  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR C certification required

  • HIGH FIVE® Principles of Healthy Child Development (PHCD) required

  • Behaviour Management Systems Training (BMS) or equivalent is required

  • Experience with recreation program planning an asset

  • Knowledge of basic ASL and augmentative communication aids an asset

  • Experience with working with medically fragile participants an asset

  • Access to transportation to travel between work locations in a timely manner is required, as successful candidate(s) will be required to travel between different camp sites

HIGH FIVE® Principles of Healthy Child Development and Behaviour Management Systems training is a requirement for this role

Successful candidates will have the opportunity to attend these certification courses as part of Summer Camp training.
