The Community Technology Director is responsible for the effective leadership of the Community Technology Team at Mill Creek Residential, which includes but is not limited to Low Voltage, Audio Visual, Smart Home, Smart Building, Access Control, Lighting, WiFi, Cellular, Video Surveillance, Building Energy Management, Telecom (Internet – resident and leasing office), and operational support of these systems. The Community Technology Director will be responsible for designing, implementing, and supporting approved technology at the community level with a team of specialists.  They will oversee the delivery of designs, standards, best practices, vendor management, product ownership, project delivery and operational support.  Success will be defined by multiple measures including, but not limited to: improved resident experience, improved asset quality, hard cost savings, cost avoidance, increases to asset value and net operating income, resident adoption, productivity gains and operational efficiencies to Mill Creek. 

Essential Functions/Responsibilities

  • Coordinate Technology Planning Meetings with Development

  • Design all technology solutions and/or lead 3rd party designers

  • Manage low voltage design process

  • Take lead of design process with 3rd party designers to provide requirements and oversight

  • Facilitate Telecom Selection (includes: Internet for Residents and Cellular Coverage)

  • Design, Negotiate, Track Installation with assistance from Ian Davis’ law firm

  • Assist in driving revenue through telecom agreements

  • Deliver technology support model for onsite staff

  • On-site troubleshooting and on-going maintenance of technology

  • Lead “Smart” initiatives in homes and the community

  • Lead revenue opportunities through “Smart” initiatives or other solutions

  • Lead Access Control standard that integrates full building systems with “Smart” initiatives

  • Lead development of training material for onsite teams

  • Facilitate marketing strategy for community technologies in partnership with Operations and Marketing

  • Lead communications with the MCR teams ensuring that are up to date on Community Technology projects and initiatives

  • Facilitate the definition of project scope, objectives and deliverables with the input of all relevant stakeholders

  • Manages RFP process, vendor selection, and contract negotiations of community technologies

  • Manages risk and issues; recommends and implements corrective action and risk mitigation plans; reports and escalates issues to management as necessary

  • Effectively communicates information and impact of change to stakeholders and end-users; prepares and presents project status to management

  • Builds and maintains working relationships with team members and other departments involved in the community technology process

  • Manage the Project Management team in the delivery of community technology to projects, on time, on budget and within scope.

Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher or equivalent experience

  • 3-5 Years proven technology leadership experience in the areas of community technology as defined above

  • Multifamily residential industry experience preferred

  • Construction and Engineering industry experience preferred

Skills/Specialized Knowledge

  • Knowledge of Real Estate, Multifamily, Construction industry technologies, trends and software products

  • Exceptional interpersonal and relationship management skills

  • Strong organization, planning and time management skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to lead with influence, motivate to action and act decisively

  • Detail oriented with strong analysis skills and problem-solving ability

  • Solid working knowledge of Microsoft Office
