Role Summary 


An established people leader who leads a larger team of data engineers (~6-10 people) or smaller teams of comparable size. Delivers work for defined domains and expand scope and feature set for those areas and collaborate with management and product to balance the needs of team wellbeing, features, and system maintenance and operation. 

Who you are: 

  • Proven management experience with a solid track record as a Manager or Senior Manager, preferably with a minimum of 5 years in a leadership role.  

  • Recruits at least 5 data engineers to own team.  

  • Performance managed at least 3 individual cases.  

  • Executes capacity planning/allocation of teams of 10 or more.  

  • Manages individuals in various locations and mentors team members.  

  • Leads more than 3 multi-quarter data engineering projects.  

  • Strong in multiple technologies or languages and able to justify technology choices to technical and non-technical observers.  

  • Defines team goals and how they fit a business need across multiple teams working together.  

  • Delivers solutions to business problems spanning teams.  

  • Delivers and influences product roadmap, working in collaboration with the product team.  

  • Expertise in architecture, business acumen and domain knowledge, testing, monitoring, alerting, data access patterns, and streaming technology.  

  • Strong understanding of how projects and teams interact with other teams.  

  • Solid understanding of data validation, data modeling, data performance, and cost optimization. 

What you'll do: 

 

  • Anticipates and recognizes bottlenecks in work processes between teams and makes suggestions for ongoing improvement. 

  • Leads implementation teams and ensures the successful execution of new ideas or approaches. 

  • Coordinates with team to define the measures of success for process improvements. 

  • Develops product phase-out planning in line with the product roadmap.  Determines different phase milestones and priorities in collaboration with product management peers. 

  • Conducts day-to-day work and solves complex issues in own specific technical engineering area. 

  • Shares deep domain and Industry knowledge between cross-functional teams. 

  • Serves as a guide to others by sharing and helping junior associates in their duties. 

  • Has recognized ability to fill in for peer engineering management as need arises

  • Partners with the business to have a clear understanding of how the technology stack is tied to business outcomes and our bottom line. 

  • Creatively tests and maintains software applications and related program supporting large scale real-time & batch data pipelines procedures by using a variety of software development tools following design and data requirements of customer. 

  • Acts as a spokesperson for software design best practices for designing large scale real time and batch data pipelines/systems. 

  • Researches and recommends frameworks and architectural/code design patterns. 

  • Identifies areas of improvements within the code and suggests solutions. 

  • Advocate for operational excellence (such as unit testing, establishing SLAs, programming for resiliency and scalability, data quality checks). 

  • Has very broad knowledge of the entire product and data pipeline, and can help with any component, or type of issues. 

  • Is well versed/has up-to-date knowledge in EG's languages, Data platforms and frameworks, cloud services, toolkits, methodologies. 

  • Gains insight into how customers utilize technology for their competitive advantage and applies this knowledge to suggest areas for improvement. 

  • Conveys the right information to the correct parties to ensure that proposals for improvements are given the proper consideration and technical issues are resolved in a timely manner. 

  • Contributes to product development by identifying industry change, listening to customer needs, capturing feedback and communicating that feedback to the business. 

  • Examines inefficiencies in the existing stack operation and encourages engineers to improve them. 

  • Bridges the gap in discussions between technology and non-technology workforce. 

  • Reports on team status faithfully and listens for suggestions to improve lagging project work. 

  • Reviews the skill and expertise requirements to accomplish team goals and identifies staffing and talent resources to fill project roles. 

  • Develops action plans for optimal resource utilization and manages resource usage among team. 

  • Encourages others to assess the potential impact of resource decisions related to efficiency and cost reduction. 

  • Ensures optimal FTE to contingent worker ratios are maintained on team. 

  • Guides individual contributors and managers to develop team and individual goals, provides regular and specific feedback, and assesses individual and team performance. 

  • Encourages and supports education and professional development of individual contributors and managers. 

  • Mentors individual contributors and managers by providing advice and recommendations based on own experience. 

  • Shares domain and Industry knowledge between cross-functional teams. 

  • Evaluates the full complement of team talent, identifies gaps, and implements action plans to fill gaps and drive achievement of goals. 

  • Acquires resources needed to reach individual and team goals. 

  • Prioritizes team morale and productivity, celebrates team accomplishments. 

  • Promotes collaboration among team members. Encourages others to cooperate and coordinate efforts. 

  • Develop a diverse talent pipeline for a team, including onboarding, and evaluating talent gaps and opportunities. 

  • Crafts the culture of their team by building team rituals, processes and practices that build strong team bonds and an open trusting environment where diverse viewpoints, opinions, and approaches and candid conversations and critiques can happen. 

  • Coordinates and contributes to process and practice that drives cross-functional operational excellence. 

  • Actively builds space for feedback and contribution from the team to improve culture and practice.

The total cash range for this position in Seattle is $173,000.00 to $242,500.00. Employees in this role have the potential to increase their pay up to $277,000.00, which is the top of the range, based on ongoing, demonstrated, and sustained performance in the role.

Starting pay for this role will vary based on multiple factors, including location, available budget, and an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience.  Pay ranges may be modified in the future.
