What you’ll be doing

You’ll operate at enterprise scale, partnering closely with product, risk, architecture and delivery leaders to shape how data is produced, managed and consumed across CBA, ensuring downstream platforms and critical business processes can rely on it with confidence.

Our Chief Engineers are deeply technical and hands‑on, operating across live, complex environments while influencing senior stakeholders to deliver safe, scalable and production‑ready data foundations.

• Accountable for platforms, architectural design, technology roadmap, and delivery outcomes

• Set technical direction and driving a culture of engineering excellence and innovation.

• Own the design and delivery of scalable, secure, and high-performing cloud-based data and AI platforms. 

• Drive engineering excellence across the platform, embedding best practices in software development, CI/CD, observability, and secure

• Lead architectural and technical decision‑making across live enterprise data environments, balancing modernisation with stability, accuracy and risk

• Own large‑scale data migrations, including legacy rationalisation, ensuring continuity and operational resilience

• Lead the development of reusable capabilities that accelerate delivery for our engineers and product teams. 

We’re interested in hearing from people who:

Are deeply technical, hands‑on Chief Engineers with experience operating complex, large‑scale complex environment. You bring strong architectural judgement and SDLC expertise with broader experience around systems, infra, network, data and platforms.

• Lead enterprise‑scale data environments, owning end‑to‑end data flows and data integrity across ingestion, processing and downstream consumption

• Bring experience delivering major data migrations or transformations from legacy to modern stacks

• Have operated in production environments where data accuracy, integrity and availability are critical to business and regulatory outcomes

• Demonstrate expertise in data lifecycle challenges, including ingestion, transformation, pipeline orchestration and downstream consumption

• Are experienced in troubleshooting complex data issues and identifying root cause across end‑to‑end data flows

• Understand data governance, controls, lineage, observability and operational risk at scale

• Influence business decision making at an Executive leadership level, and partnered across product, risk and delivery to deliver enterprise outcomes
