Navigators Re (“NavRe”) is a division of The Hartford writing assumed treaty reinsurance with the following characteristics:

  • Founded in 2010
  • 2024 estimated annual GWP of $850 million
  • 70+ colleagues managing underwriting, distribution, actuarial, finance, contract, claims, information technology and operations
  • A global footprint with offices in Stamford, CT; Morristown, NJ; Coral Gables, FL; London and Zurich
  • Many of the markets in which Nav Re currently competes are exhibiting favorable trading conditions

Reporting to the Accounting Operations manager, the Team Lead - Cash Operations will oversee the reinsurance cash accounting function.  The successful candidate will ensure accurate and timely cash reporting, compliance with regulatory requirements, and effective management of reinsurance transactions. This role involves leading a team of accounting professionals, collaborating with various departments, and providing strategic insights to optimize reinsurance operations.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership and Management:

  • Establish and maintain a stable, high performing group of accounting professionals responsible for cash processing and application.
  • Identify, develop, and implement onboarding and training programs to enhance team skills and knowledge.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and provide feedback to team members.

Reinsurance Cash Accounting:

  • Oversee cash processing, application, collection and reconciliation.
  • Review and approve payment requests.
  • Partner with treaty accountants and underwriting operations to resolve cash discrepancies.
    • Coordinate with auditors and provide necessary documentation.
    • Collaborate with underwriting, claims, IT and actuarial departments to support operational strategies.

Process Improvement:

  • Spearhead initiative to reduce aged accounts receivables balances.
  • Provide strategic insights and recommendations to enhance efficiency and accuracy in reinsurance accounting operations.
  • Identify and implement process improvements.
  • Develop and maintain policies and procedures.
  • Support department initiatives to review historical contracts for accuracy.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/Finance or equivalent work experience; CPA or equivalent certification a plus.
  • Minimum of 7 years experience in reinsurance accounting or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of reinsurance principles and GAAP/statutory accounting.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.

Location:

This role will have a Hybrid work arrangement, with the expectation of working in an office in Stamford, CT; Coral Gables, FL; or Chicago, IL at least three days a week (Tuesday through Thursday).

Compensation

The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:

$89,440 - $134,160
