As a Senior Associate Engineer within Electrification team of Caterpillar, you will be responsible for design and development of battery systems and its sub-systems. You will be integral part of battery modules / pack team which work on concepting, designing and development of battery systems. This role requires to perform job duties covering electrical and mechanical design. This position directly impacts Caterpillar’s current and future electrification products developed for various markets.

Job Duties/Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Design and development of battery module and battery pack for electrification products
  • Development of electrical & mechanical architecture and product configurations
  • Design and development of high voltage DC systems
  • Perform structural analysis, electrical / electronic / mechanical components selection and design calculations
  • Define system interactions and work on integrating cells, modules, busbars and other components within battery modules and packs
  • Use knowledge of various manufacturing processes to deliver the solution that meets DFA & DFM
  • Prepare Design FMEA, define validation plan and execute validation activities working with global cross functional teams
  • Prepare technical reports and conduct design reviews with the stakeholders
  • Resolve technical issues during prototype, pilot and production phases of product development lifecycle 
  • Communicate results to customers, suppliers, team members and other cross functional teams in a concise and accurate manner
  • Provide technical support to quality & purchasing during part development
  • Perform product maintenance in support of Continuous Product Improvement (CPI) - Factory CPI and field CPI issues
  • Work with business unit, corporate battery systems SMEs, electrical and mechanical engineers for delivering projects on time.

 Basic Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical / Mechanical / Mechatronics / Automotive or Energy Systems
  • Bachelor’s with 6-8 years or Master’s with 4-6 years of experience in battery systems design
  • Communicate technical information effectively with all stakeholders
  • Willingness to travel domestic/international up to 10% when job role requires

Desired Qualification:  

  • Experience with design and development of battery module and pack for EV or Energy Storage Systems is must
  • Experience with BMS hardware and Power Module hardware architecture development would be a plus.
  • Knowledge of drivetrain systems for a range of architectures (hybrid, BEV, etc.) would be a plus.
