JOB SUMMARY

The Senior Vice President, Core Platform Technology is a key leadership position responsible for the strategic direction, development, implementation, and ongoing performance of Highmark Health's core platform technology ecosystem. This role is critical to ensuring the platform's reliability, scalability, security, and alignment with the organization's business objectives. The SVP will lead a team of IT professionals, manage significant budgets, and collaborate closely with other senior leaders across the organization to drive innovation and modernization within the core platform environment. This leader will be a visionary, capable of translating business needs into a technology roadmap, and a strong executor, able to deliver on complex initiatives.


ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Strategic Leadership:

    • Develop and execute a comprehensive technology strategy for Highmark Health's core platform, aligned with the overall business strategy and objectives.

    • Lead the creation and implementation of a multi-year modernization roadmap for the core platform, addressing technical debt, improving efficiency, and enabling new business capabilities.

    • Stay abreast of industry trends and emerging technologies, evaluating their potential impact on the core platform and Highmark Health.

    • Provide thought leadership on the future of core platform technology and its role in driving business innovation.

    • Key focus on AI technologies as it relates to project and program code delivery, core platform modernization and operational efficiencies (maintenance).

  • Technology Management:

    • Oversee the design, development, implementation, performance and maintenance of all core platform systems and applications.

    • Ensure the platform's reliability, scalability, security, and performance, meeting or exceeding established key performance indicators (KPIs)

    • Establish and enforce architectural standards, development methodologies, and quality assurance processes.

    • Manage vendor relationships, negotiate contracts, and ensure vendor performance meets expectations.

    • Bring AI opportunities to the system development life cycle.

  • Team Leadership:

    • Develop a culture of talent development and drive a continuous focus on performance improvement that attracts and retains top talent.

    • Ensure team is staffed, motivated, inspired, engaged and empowered to deliver a high and sustainable performance level in an ever changing environment at a cost level the organization can sustain and reflects market realities.

    • Champion excellence in quality. Communicate to the employees the correlation between service excellence, customer satisfaction and improved operating performance and how these goals will leverage collective successes.

    • Work to develop the next set of core technology leadership

  • Financial Management:

    • In conjunction with enGen finance develop and manage the budget for the core platform technology organization.

    • Identify opportunities to optimize costs and improve efficiency.

    • Oversight of key project/program financial management

  • Collaboration and Communication:

    • Collaborate closely with other senior leaders across the organization, including business unit leaders, product management, and other technology leaders.

    • Communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels of the organization, providing updates on the platform's status, progress, and future direction.

    • Represent the core platform technology organization in executive-level meetings and presentations.

    • Be a key leader in enGen meetings, presentations and correspondence

    • A key stakeholder in enGen customer relations and growth

  • Risk Management and Compliance:

    • Identify and mitigate risks associated with the core platform technology.

    • Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and standards, including HIPAA, PCI DSS, and others.

    • Develop and implement disaster recovery and business continuity plans.

    • Build and maintain a strong partnership with corporate compliance and legal teams

  • Other duties as assigned or requested.

EXPERIENCE

Required

  • Minimum of 15 years of experience in information technology, with at least 10 years in a senior leadership role.

  • Experience with AI as it relates to core platforms.

  • Proven track record of successfully leading large-scale technology modernization initiatives with the ability to effectively balance tactical and strategic priorities

  • Experience in large matrix organizations with multi-stakeholder ecosystems

  • Experience in the healthcare industry is highly preferred.


SKILLS

  • Deep understanding of core platform technologies, including mainframe systems, cloud computing, data management, and security.

  • Strong leadership, communication, interpersonal skills and excellent financial management skills.

  • Knowledge of relevant regulations and standards, such as HIPAA and PCI DSS.

EDUCATION

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or relevant experience and/or education as determined by the company in lieu of bachelor's degree.   

Preferred

  • Master's degree
