The Team:
You will be part of a world-class Database Reliability Engineering (DBRE)/DSE team that supports various product offerings of S&P Global Market Intelligence. Our team leverages a range of middle-tier, database, and OS technologies to serve tens of thousands of users globally. We are dedicated to ensuring greater reliability, high performance, high availability, and scalability.
 

Responsibilities and Impact:

  • Support, administer, and manage multi-terabyte database systems
  • Manage key database releases for QA, Pre-Production, Production and DR as part of the overall SDLC.
  • Contribute to the development of best-in-class product support tools and processes, including run books, monitoring, and knowledge bases, to aid in the product support process.
  • Install upgrades and patches to existing databases servers
  • Automate routine maintenance tasks using scripting technologies
  • Solve a range of routine problems and analyze possible solutions using standard procedures.
  • Collaborate with IT server management and other groups to ensure that all events, incidents, and problems are resolved as per the service level agreement (SLA).
  • Improve efficiency and quality of delivery by automating routine tasks.
  • Suggest improvements to current processes and tools.
  • Perform database backups and refreshes in non-production environments.
  • Participate in 24x7 on-call tier 3 support on a weekly rotating schedule.
  • Contribute to process and troubleshooting documentation.

What We are looking for:

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or Engineering 
  • 5+ years of hands-on database administration
  • ITIL V3 Foundation Certified is a plus.
  • AZURE/AWS/GCP Certified is a plus.

Additional Preferred Qualifications:

  • Hands-on experience with MS SQL Server (Experience with additional database platforms like NoSQL, SOLR, Elastic Search, Oracle, and PostgreSQL is a huge plus).
  • Experience with database support, administration, and monitoring.
  •  Knowledge on Transactional Replication, Log Shipping, Mirroring, AlwaysOn and Windows Clustering is a plus
  • Proficiency in PowerShell or any other scripting or programming language is a plus.
  •  Excellent communication skills, with strong verbal and writing proficiencies
  • Ability to troubleshoot problems involving Client Libraries (like ADO.NET), Operating Systems, Network and Storage is a plus.
  • Willingness to  work on 24/7 shifts
