Your Opportunity:

The Quality Manager reports to the Sr Quality Manager.   This role leads the quality initiatives and performance standards of our manufacturing processes. This role will provide strategic leadership within the plant by prioritizing and communicating customer needs, providing feedback on plant quality performance, and facilitating teamwork to assure corrective and preventive actions are implemented and effective. Partners with the leadership team in development and implementation of long-range plans to ensure the facility continues to stay a competitive provider of quality parts.

Work Location: 

  • This opportunity is based out of the Tomah, WI location. Remote or Hybrid is not available for this opportunity.   

  • Candidates should prepare for 5-days on-site in Tomah, WI for the majority of the schedule.  Overtime as required.

  • 10% Travel to other Toro locations for business acumen.

Business Plans and Strategies:   

  • Utilizing Lean principles, methodologies and techniques, this role is responsible for the implementation, execution and overall operation of the quality processes at Shakopee.

  • Provide development and guidance to the hourly and salaried workforce through proper coaching, partnering and relationship building.

  • Provide ongoing analysis of manufacturing area operating results and corrective action to meet or exceed planned performance levels of quality, expense, efficiency and inventory control.

  • Responsible for appropriate manpower planning during peak and non-peak operations, utilizing contract language and processes to balance customer need and cost goals.

  • Support the development and implementation of the capital plan to provide adequate capacity, aggressive quality improvement, and strong cost and asset control.

What Will You Do? 

In order to grow and build a successful career with The Toro Company, you will be responsible for:  

  • Assures component parts are manufactured to specification using a controlled and repeatable process.

  • Partner with design and engineering group in development and prove-out verification of new processes.

  • Assure strong communication and partnering takes place with assembly plants to resolve daily issues and improve long term quality performance.

  • Provide feedback to the plant personnel prioritizing/communicating customer expectations and status of plant quality performance.

  • Monitor effectiveness of corrective actions and create preventative standards to improve quality.

  • May troubleshoot quality issues of high complexity.

  • Update management staff on overall plant and supplier quality performance, effectiveness of preventative/corrective action activity, current project status, and assessments of customer needs on a regular basis.

  • Furnish technical support and training in latest quality techniques and philosophies to improve process control and nonconformance prevention. Form and facilitate teams to address significant or reoccurring quality issues using Root Cause / Correct Action analysis.

  • Assure effective quality systems, personnel, and equipment resources are available, developed, and maintained.

  • Assure effective process controls and inspection procedures are identified and documented.

  • Track and provide quality performance feedback to external suppliers. Identify key issues and work with plant, purchasing, and supplier resources to resolve issues. Consult with suppliers to upgrade their quality capabilities.

  • Facilitate the implementation and maintenance of ISO 9001:2015 certification.

  • Administer the auditing and corrective action portions of ISO 9001:2015.

  • Responsible for creating an environment which values employees, serves our customers and provides a fair return to owner.

  • Assures excellent housekeeping, productivity and work habits are maintained.

  • Responsible for maintaining calibration requirements for all tools and gauges in the facility.

  • Communicates effectively at all levels in the organization to keep manufacturing on track with corporate/division objectives.

  • Share best practices with other Toro locations to further standardize and formalize process.

  • Develop and mentor the Quality team to build technical skills and leadership capabilities.

What Do You Need?

  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in Mechanical, Quality, Electrical or Industrial Engineering.

  • 7+ years of Quality Engineering experience in assembly industries, preferably as Quality Manager.

  • 5+ years of Management experience required.

  • Control Plans, SPC, Poka-Yoke, COPQ, and problem-solving tools.

  • Data analysis and root cause analysis.

  • Internal calibration and measurement system analysis.

  • GD&T and ISO 9001/QMS procedure development.

  • Coaching and supplier quality (incoming inspection, containment, audits).

  • CTQ/CTP, process controls, process validation, layered and process audits.

  • Document control, APQP, COC, and PPAP.

Preferred? 

  • ASQ Certification.

  • Six-Sigma Green Belt Certification.

  • Assembly experience with vehicle and/or large mechanical goods.

  • Strong management, communication, and leadership skills.

  • Proficiency in MS Office; SAP, Minitab, and welding/powder-paint experience are a plus.

Other Job Related Components? 

  • Works directly with the planning team. Works with multiple suppliers. Develop rapport with both the vendor and buyer.

  • Makes oral and written presentations.  Must work with suppliers, sourcing, manufacturing in a professional manner whether on a one-on-one basis or large group situations.

  • Typical manufacturing plant conditions (indoors, with variable temperature, noise).

Job Title: 

The job title will be based on academic and prior years of directly related experience.

  • Quality Manager I:  Bachelor's degree, plus 5+ years of Quality Engineering expierence, plus 3+ years of Management experience required.

  • Quality Manager II:  Bachelor's degree, plus 7+ years of Quality Engineering expierence, plus 5+ years of Management experience required.
