JOB DESCRIPTION:

Provides emotional/informational support for program participants and their families. Assists clients with access to positive social connections and community-based or office-based recovery support services. This role will work with community partners and local stakeholders to provide comprehensive care in the community or office. As a part of the community-based or office-based team, the Peer Support Specialist will meet with individuals in office and/or their own environment such as in the client’s home, hospital, the office, schools/work, etc. This role will ensure continuity of care with clients through peer services as well as sharing their own lived experiences to provide clients with education, support, and hope. A variety of clinical training opportunities are available based on program and interest.

Minimum Qualifications Lived experience with mental illness, substance use, or homelessness and/or experience gained through family member’s mental health/substance use.  Experience navigating the healthcare systems and other community support resources.  Must have a FL driver’s license.

Preferred Qualification: Knowledge of community resources or ability to learn quickly.  Experience working with individuals with mental health or substance use concerns.  Enthusiastic about influencing positive change in our clients’ lives. 

Special Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:  Competency with electronic medical records, computer systems, and documentation.  Strong interpersonal communication skills in order to collaborate with team members and maintain professionalism in the community.  Accountable and self-directed with daily job duties.

Essential Functions: 

Reports to work as scheduled on a daily basis and performs duties as assigned by supervisor to ensure the smooth operation of the department. Develop and maintain therapeutic relationships with clients and conduct outreach activities. Assist clients in identifying personal recovery goals and setting objectives for each goal. Provide individual and group peer support services. Model effective coping techniques and self-help strategies. Facilitate wraparound/recovery supports (e.g., transportation, social connection, job training, benefits enrollment) based on individual treatment plan goals. Collaborate with treatment team to develop and review treatment plans. Network with community stakeholders to advocate for clients. Educate the community about peer support services and the peer-based philosophy. Completes all required agency trainings to maintain 100% compliance. Maintains departmental productivity expectations. Additional training and/or certification may be required based on specific program guidelines. Completes all other duties as assigned.

Work Environment/Physical Demands:   This position operates in community-based and/or office-based settings depending on program.  Sits, stands, bends, lifts, drives, and moves intermittently during work hours.  Is subject to frequent interruptions.  Reasonable accommodations will be made as needed.

Position Type, Expected Hours of Work and Travel:  This is a full-time (40hours/week) position with a flexible work schedule to include early morning and evenings.  On call rotation and weekend hours may be required.

Programs: Centerstone has Recovery Peer Specialist opportunities in a variety of programs to include working with children, families, and/or adults as well as substance use and/or mental health prevention and intervention programs. Additional program specialties include school-based, forensic, employment, substance use overdose prevention, and homelessness prevention.

$14.25--$20.00
