Job Title: Practice Director

Practice: Cromwell Veterinary Group

Location: Cambridgeshire

Role Type: Permanent | Full Time

Are you a commercially driven operational leader ready to step into one of the most influential leadership opportunities within the veterinary sector?

At Cromwell Veterinary Group, we are offering the chance to lead a large-scale, high-performing veterinary group widely recognized as one of the flagship operations within the wider Linnaeus network. This is far more than a traditional Practice Director role; it is an opportunity to shape the direction of an exceptionally progressive, clinically advanced, and people-focused business with genuine scale, complexity, and influence.

Cromwell has built an outstanding reputation not only for the quality of its clinical care, but for the calibre of its teams, collaborative culture, and ambitious mindset. The group combines the strength and infrastructure of a large multi-site operation with the clinical standards, innovation, and expertise more commonly associated with referral-level environments. Associates work within a truly collaborative clinical network, where knowledge-sharing, case discussion, and continuous development are embedded into everyday practice. With a central hospital and multiple thriving branch practices across Cambridgeshire, Cromwell benefits from significant clinical density, an established and highly experienced Senior Leadership Team, and a strong track record of growth and performance. This role will be instrumental in continuing that success.

You will work closely alongside senior clinical and operational leaders to translate strategic vision into operational reality; driving commercial performance, empowering teams, strengthening culture, and ensuring the business continues to evolve in line with both client expectations and the future of veterinary care.

This is a highly visible leadership role suited to an ambitious operator who thrives in fast-paced, complex environments and is motivated by the opportunity to influence, innovate, and make a measurable impact at scale. Whilst veterinary experience would be advantageous, we are equally open to experienced leaders from healthcare or other regulated multi-site environments who can bring strong commercial leadership, strategic thinking, and people-first operational expertise.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead one of the largest and most established veterinary groups within the Linnaeus network, ensuring operational excellence across a multi-site environment
  • Partner closely with Clinical Directors, Lead Vets, and the Senior Leadership Team to align commercial performance with exceptional clinical standards
  • Drive sustainable business growth through strong financial leadership, strategic planning, and operational innovation
  • Take ownership of group-wide commercial performance, including budgeting, forecasting, P&L management, and performance optimisation across a significant revenue operation
  • Build, develop, and retain high-performing leadership teams, creating strong succession pathways and long-term engagement
  • Translate corporate strategy into clear, actionable objectives across all sites, ensuring alignment, accountability, and delivery
  • Champion continuous improvement initiatives that enhance efficiency, client experience, colleague engagement, and operational effectiveness
  • Lead and support change management and transformation projects, helping the business evolve in an increasingly progressive veterinary landscape
  • Ensure high standards of clinical governance, compliance, operational consistency, and service delivery across the group
  • Use data, insight, and performance metrics to identify opportunities, mitigate risk, and drive informed decision-making

What we are looking for

  • Proven experience leading large, complex, multi-site operations within veterinary, healthcare, or another regulated environment

  • Commercially astute with strong experience managing sizeable P&Ls and delivering sustainable business performance

  • An engaging, credible, and emotionally intelligent leader who can influence at all levels of an organization

  • Experienced in leading senior managers, clinicians, and operational teams through growth, change, and transformation

  • Able to balance strategic thinking with hands-on operational delivery in a fast-paced environment

  • Passionate about developing people, creating high-performing cultures, and driving long-term organizational success

  • Comfortable working within a matrix structure, balancing local autonomy with wider business priorities

  • Resilient, adaptable, and forward-thinking, with a strong focus on innovation and continuous improvement

  • Desirable (but not essential)

  • Qualified Veterinary Surgeon with leadership experience

  • Previous experience within a corporate veterinary or healthcare group

  • Experience leading operational transformation, integration, or growth projects
