At Databricks, we are passionate about enabling data teams to solve the world's toughest problems — from making the next mode of transportation a reality to accelerating the development of medical breakthroughs. We do this by building and running the world's best data and AI infrastructure platform so our customers can use deep data insights to improve their business.

We are the “UI Platform” team responsible for enabling all frontend developers at Databricks to build amazing features. We support hundreds of developers working in the frontend every week. We own all aspects of the dev loop, relying on industry-standard technology like Typescript, React, GraphQL, yarn, node, webpack, and more!

We're seeking a dedicated Engineering Leader who can spearhead one of two major initiatives in the UI Platform. The first initiative is enabling developers to go from idea to code in production in 24 hours. This encompasses the dev loop, monitoring for our production frontend, and everything needed to ensure smooth delivery of code to production. The second initiative is Single Pane of Glass, which is doing infrastructure and product work aimed at unifying various parts of Databricks into one easy-to-use experience.

You will report directly to the Senior Manager of Engineering.

The main responsibilities include:

  • You will lead a talented engineering team in UI Platform focused on one of the above initiatives.
  • You will oversee sustained recruitment of top-tier talent, and developing talent on the team.
  • You will build processes to implement product vision and strategy, according to organizational goals and priorities.
  • You will build software that is not just high quality, but easy to operate.
  • You will manage technical debt, including long-term technical architecture decisions, and balance product roadmap.

What we look for:

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in web frontend development, with a strong preference for React-based applications
  • 2+ years leading and managing a high-performing engineering team.
  • A passion for infrastructure, tooling, developer productivity, or performance optimization and the ability to drive technical initiatives that improve overall team efficiency and code quality
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor, coach, and develop engineering talent at various levels
  • Ability to drive technical initiatives that improve overall team efficiency and code quality
  • Experience in setting and achieving ambitious team goals aligned with company objectives
  • Strong track record of attracting, hiring, and retaining top engineering talent
  • Experience managing distributed teams across multiple locations.
  • Adaptability and resilience in a fast-paced, rapidly evolving tech environment
