As a Senior Engineering Manager at Workiva, you’ll lead an agile product development team, focusing on collaboration, growth, and continuous improvement. In this role, you’ll provide technical leadership, nurture a diverse team, and strategically guide efforts to ensure successful product development. You’ll play a crucial role in fostering a supportive, inclusive environment where team members feel empowered to learn, experiment, and contribute innovative solutions.
In this position, you’ll lead our Solution Apps team, which is responsible for our Governance, Risk, and Compliance (GRC) offering, serving some of the largest organizations globally.
What You'll Do
Leadership: Guide, support, and empower a team of engineers
Talent Management: Represent and communicate team needs, prioritizing based on the roadmap and team capacity and make thoughtful trade-offs within your team while collaborating with other group leaders
Quality Assurance: Partner with leaders and individual contributors to define and execute a quality strategy, ensuring alignment with guidelines and expectations
Risk Management: Identify and address technical risks, providing clear communication to leadership
Planning: Collaborate with group leaders to define and plan team objectives, aligning them with broader company goals
Sustainability: Champion sustainable product development practices, with a focus on agile principles, support, architectural direction, and technical debt
Delivery Schedule: Contribute to and ensure accountability for meeting the product delivery schedule
Representation: Represent Workiva Engineering at both internal and external events, actively engaging in recruiting efforts through meet-ups, conferences, and networking
Best Practices: Ensure that your team adheres to Workiva's development principles, standards, and best practices in Engineering, Architecture, and Product
Team Performance Development:
Performance Assessment: Evaluate and document individual team members' performance
Coaching: Meet regularly with direct reports to provide coaching, support, and guidance in overcoming challenges
Conflict Management: Maintain team health, addressing engagement and conflict resolution proactively
Career Growth: Invest time in supporting the career growth of your team members, providing development opportunities aligned with their goals
Recruitment: Participate in recruiting and onboarding new team members, ensuring a smooth transition into the team
What You'll Need
Required Qualifications
Undergraduate degree or equivalent combination of education and experience in a related field
7+ years of experience in a related engineering role
Preferred Qualifications
4+ years of experience in a people management role
Progressive experience in software engineering, with a strong understanding of the software development life cycle (SDLC) and its importance to product success
Experience with programming, including a solid foundation in computer science, data structures, algorithms, and object-oriented design
Familiarity with Agile development methodologies
Experience in accounting or financial reporting
Strong communication skills, including verbal, listening, and written communication
High attention to detail
Proficiency in facilitation and conflict resolution
Travel Requirements & Working Conditions
This role typically requires no more than 10% travel, supporting a healthy work-life balance

How You’ll Be Rewarded
✅ Salary range in the US: $142,000.00 - $241,000.00✅ A discretionary bonus typically paid annually
✅ Restricted Stock Units granted at time of hire
✅ 401(k) match and comprehensive employee benefits package
